Su-33 fighter is a single seat dual engine carrier based fighter developed by Sukhoi Design Bureau of the former Soviet Union on the basis of Su-27.

The Su-33 fighter plane was developed in 1975 with the prototype number of t10k. Because it is one of the carrier based aircraft derived from Su-27 fighter, it continues the NATO code of Su-27 and is called flanker-d. Su-33 took the first flight in August 1987; in November 1989, the first landing test was carried out on the carrier Tbilisi (later the "Kuznetsov") aircraft carrier; in April 1993, it was equipped with the Russian navy; in August 1998, it was officially included in the combat establishment. The Su-33 is mainly deployed on the only active Russian aircraft carrier Kuznetsov. Because the Kuznetsov uses a sliding deck and needs to take off with its own power, and the fatal defect of the Su-33 is that it can not carry out ocean operations as well as the US Navy fighters.
