Ring Wing Mk.1

24.6k asteroidbook345  1.3 years ago
Auto Credit Based on EternalDarkness's General Aviation Challenge [CLOSED]

Description

The Ring Wing MK.1 is my rendition of the Narushevich Ring Wing experimental aircraft. This type of wing, also known as a closed wing or annular wing, eliminates wingtip vortices, making the aircraft very efficient. As this is only experimental, I didn’t put very much fuel in it to keep it realistic. It’s also my push to gold aircraft!! Have fun!

Also available in these liveries:

Red

Pink

Green

Blue

The real thing:

Note:

Yes, I’m very aware mine looks like a clownfish.

Very good model! I wonder what this aircraft was made for in real life though.@asteroidbook345

@asteroidbook345 that sounds kind of cool but you want to upload your own plane as an entry?

@Mustang51 Do you think I should make a Ring Wing challenge and I upload the Ring Wing Mk. 2 at the end?

@asteroidbook345 that’s a good idea. I’ll take a look at his builds for examples

@Mustang51 yeah BogdanX does a good job. I peeled apart his Me-262 one time so I think I'll try his technique some time.

@asteroidbook345 yes that is slightly challenging but with a bit of tinkering, it’s not too hard I think

@Mustang51 Luckily this thing has perfectly straight wings so I was able to use the normal fuselage blocks.

@Mustang51 yeah the only difficulty is making a wing that tapers in thickness if you want the sharper edges. I have a pretty decent example on my Saunders-Roe rocket plane but it's not perfect.

@asteroidbook345 CCS always seems difficult at first but I don’t know why I didn’t start making them ages ago. They’re actually pretty simple to make. I always try to encourage new players to make them so they get into the habit of it early hahaha

@Mustang51 yeah this one was pretty stable. I also think it was one of my first with fully custom control surfaces.

@asteroidbook345 they definitely do catch the eye. Everyone likes the weird planes that look different but still fly decently well

@Mustang51 Thanks! It's by far my most popular plane to date...I was thinking of making more ring wings because of it.

This is so cool! I love planes which are mostly normal and then have either weird wings or engines. Very nicely made too!

Hard to believe this wing configuration actually exists. It is crazy , but cool looking at the same time. Nice job!

@GeneralOliverVonBismarck lmao it’s called sarcasm. @BlueCitrus Also calling a plane ugly is different than calling a person ugly. The A-10 is a great example of that.

@GeneralOliverVonBismarck Well then don't look at it, only real simpleplanes players can see its true beauty
