Graingy Survey: Do you like water transportation?

48.3k Graingy  1.1 years ago

Ferries of various sorts, essentially. Maybe a light water craft in the odd case, if you’ve needed that.

Referring exclusively to practical transport. If you’ve been on it, Queen Mary 2 is not included as it’s entirely just a status symbol and an excuse to go on a transatlantic cruise instead of taking a much more sensible plane.

I think boats are pretty swell, personally. Especially when there’s a good view.

@TheUltimatePlaneLover That is, the internal method? Two stabilizers running alongside the interior of the hull? Main hull may or may not be buoyant as well?
Hm, perhaps not the wisest design choice I’ve picked up…
Well, I got nothing. Boats are tough. That being said, my non-ICatamaran designs also have a lot of difficulty turning as well. See the EPS Morrayge as an example. That thing’s turning is TERRIBLE. If I had the motivation I’d do a Recanon version.

@Randomplayer Epstein never once crossed my mind.
    Suspicious…

@Graingy I have experimented with catamaran designs, but as you said, they're not the best turners

@hpgbproductions Or long distances. Some crossings are not practical over bridges or tunnels. Either not frequently taken enough, or far too expensive.

@TheUltimatePlaneLover have you tried internal catamarans? Or do those not turn well?

@Strucker Not a boat, not an airship. Truly an enigma.

    @Randomplayer Which?
Also, no. This wasn’t ordered by the brass, it’s just an engagement thing. Maintaining a position in the community, such and such.

I was on a ferry just a few days ago. It was quite pleasant. The view was remarkable.

We need more unique and funky boats, I'm tired of warships and replicas

I think they are cool but not great as transport, they are slow and infrequent. They are only good when it's too rural to build bridges/tunnels

Yes actually, but I rarely build them because they're hard to build, whether it be...
-Size, my iPad (the only device I can build on) can't handle large ships
-Stability, it's very difficult to build a stable ship that's still responsive and easy to turn
Other than that they're pretty cool though
