Hyper realistic mania II (or wing Aeroelasticity)

Wing Aeroelasticity

To reduce aerodynamic resistance modern airplanes increase the length and reduce the thickness of the main wings, but in this way the wings became fragile. In the past to cope with the effects of structural instability, they reinforced construction, but thus losing the advantages of a lightweight build. In modern aeronautics, lighter materials have been developed that are at the same time robust but also allow for elastic deformation, opening a new field in the science of engineering.

Some of the huge advantages are:
a. Long and light wings move elastically as vibration dampers that do not propagate in the fuselage.
b. Lower aerodynamic resistance and fuel economy.
c. As the wings bend they create a polydihedral surface who increases the lift to drag ratio.

In 1996-1999, NASA investigated the effect of active air elasticity to control roll by twisting an F-18 wing, and recently Airbus flyed a model with a semi-elastic joint in the wing tips.

Applications are huge on high performance fighter jets, in general aviation aircrafts and at very high altitude planes. However, the application is ideal in modern racing gliders.

In this model you will notice a new airfoil structure as well as the beautiful semi-rigid elastic wings. Each wing is divided into 5 sections that move synergistically. Each section has +1.5 degrees to -0.4 degrees dihedral.

Also included are submersible air spoilers and full span flaperons (ranging from -4 to +8 degrees for flaps, and -+10 degree deflection for ailerons).

Some small details before the final upload. The final design will come with a tow aircraft that allows launch of the glider and can land after independently. Also includes a ballast hydraulic system (last shot).

Aren't gliders supposed to have long wings???

@Bman01 hi dear friend. Hi have the sailplane ready. Real life unfortunately has me working with something else. I will send it at some point

@Hectord27 As far as I know there is nothing, I think the key is to design them part by part. Each section should not be joined anywhere with the previous one, except in a hinge that you have adjusted in degrees depending on the speed of the aircraft. If you want I can tag you in release of the glider.

@Viper3000ad Are there any tutorials as to how to design Aeroelastic wings in SP using fuselages? I have seen it done on a few commercial airliners and I would love to know!

@asteroidbook345 The last photo tries to simulate the visible trail of water from the ballast system. The sailplane has almost 13 gallons of water ballast. The system does not produce any thrust.

@jamesPLANESii Thanks James, the cockpit isn't ready yet. Until now has a speedometer and a fixed altimeter, still needs a simple variometer, a turn coordinator and i am thinking to make a pilot. It's in raw form, but would you like to try it ?

Nice! Just a suggestion with your cockpit glass, add a few very thin pieces of fuselage that run in the shape of the window just so that it doesn’t look like it’s an open canopy plane.
