  • [Teaser] Sometimes you need to reinvent the engines...... 5.8 years ago

oh on a side note, I do plan on re-inventing the cowl flaps of the vanilla WWII engine as well. it's just not the first priority atm.

  • [Teaser] Sometimes you need to reinvent the engines...... 5.8 years ago

@randomusername because even if I use mechanical engines you would say the same. I did, however, use general parts to re-create the shape of the vanilla engine. That's what I mean by re-inventing (the in-game WWII) engine.

    Stop arguing on this.

  • [Teaser] Sometimes you need to reinvent the engines...... 5.8 years ago

@randomusername Well first this engine is constant speed (adjust output by pitch not by RPM), and I used other blocks to make the look of the built-in WWII engine just because that weird prop position problem.

  • [Teaser] Sometimes you need to reinvent the engines...... 5.8 years ago

@randomusername You mean rotator engine? Nah I prefer something that actually makes the engine sound...

  • A weird discovery about bullet auto-replacement 5.8 years ago

@Brields95 It is and it has been proven.
In some circumstances high burst count results in the system deleting older bullets.

  • A weird discovery about bullet auto-replacement 5.8 years ago

    @BlackBoA @PositivePlanes @TrislandianAlliance
OK after further research, I found the reason.

    It's BURST COUNT.
I tried lowering burst count from 150 to 45 and now it can shoot all the way to the far end of the runway.

So it looks like the problem is that you can't have too large a magazine, or the system would try to spare some resource in case you started shooting non-stop.

  • A weird discovery about bullet auto-replacement 5.8 years ago

@BlackBoA What's more, do you know what happens when a 10-sec-lifetime gun stopped firing? the last 6 rounds suddenly continued to fly because there's no more round to replace them. This is total evidence of something ELSE is deleting the bullets.

  • A weird discovery about bullet auto-replacement 5.8 years ago

@PositivePlanes My guess is that the system allocates resource in accordance with the size of your plane. Larger plane= more resources= more allowed bullets per gun.

  • A weird discovery about bullet auto-replacement 5.8 years ago

@BlackBoA Well that's not what happened with me.
I made it 10 second lifetime, still only first 6 rounds exist.
Yet the exactly same gun on a 300 part plane can have 60 rounds at the same time.

  • A weird discovery about bullet auto-replacement 5.8 years ago

@BlackBoA This usually happens at quite a long distance, did you pause and pull your camera all the way front to see? (usually it disappears after 500m)

Also try this with a <100 parts plane

  • A weird discovery about bullet auto-replacement 5.8 years ago

    @Armyguy1534 No it doesn't work.
It is entirely independent to bullet lifetime. No matter how long I set it the planes with lower part count will always have its 7th bullet replacing the 1st.

  • A weird discovery about bullet auto-replacement 5.8 years ago

@BlackBoA You never had bullet disappearing after a certain number of shots from the same gun?
Or is that simply because your builds always have very much parts?

  • Best way to make custom wings? 5.8 years ago

take a look on my recent aircrafts like P.1056 and Fw 250, it's not as hard as you think.
if you are not making different colors for the upper and lower surfaces, a wing would usually consist of a total of

Cosmetic wing :up to 7 parts: main inner, main outer, root trailing edge, flap, middle trailing edge, aileron and wingtip
Lifting wing: two parts, one inner wing to be rotated to act as flap, and one outer wing to provide aileron
mechanisms: 3 rotators, for cosmetic aileron, cosmetic flap and actual flap.

so it's 12 parts for a single wing, not too difficult I think.

  • Multi-fuselage Aircraft Challenge 5.8 years ago

@TrislandianAlliance You can try to make some more decorations like pennant number, antenna, roundel and so on.

And it's not all armament, only ordnance are excluded (guns are included, but those "droppable" weapons like bombs and missiles and rockets are excluded)

  • Blohm & Voss BV 299Z - Ground Striker 5.8 years ago

@Seeras Alright I amended the rules, it is now okay.

  • Multi-fuselage Aircraft Challenge 5.8 years ago

    @Mercyaircraftcorporation @TrislandianAlliance
I'm seeing quite a number of people having problem with the part count now, please check the updated rules.

The new "hard" part count (i.e. the one that causes disqualification) is now 1000 but you get extra points for having 150-400.

  • Blohm & Voss BV 299Z - Ground Striker 5.8 years ago

@Seeras Supposedly an over-parted entry would simply disqualify.

But I'm thinking about loosening the limit a bit.
I make 300 part SINGLE fuslage planes myself, it would be weird to require multi-fuselage planes within 400...

  • Blohm & Voss BV 299Z - Ground Striker 5.8 years ago

The plane is good, it exceeded the parts count limit though.

  • Blohm & Voss BV 299Z - Ground Striker 5.8 years ago

I can't open this as well, it says unable to sync, and even if I force start it won't show the plane for some reason...

Edit: ah just shorten the file name and it worked

  • Multi-fuselage Aircraft Challenge 5.8 years ago

@Mercyaircraftcorporation Yes, 150-400 is the part count limit, excluding ordnance.

  • Multi-fuselage Aircraft Challenge 5.8 years ago

@thefalkenreich It has to be multi-fuselage, that's the topic, what are you asking?
I do not limit the number for fuselages, you can do a 5- or even 10-fuselage plane as long as it still fits into the runway (check the requirements)

Gyroscope plus disabling your control surfaces.
Also remember to disable pitch, roll and yaw input on that gyro.

  • SimplePlanes Damage physics Update 5.8 years ago

I think they can start with a better catch fire mechanism.
I tested a few days ago and basically it comes to this:

    1. catching fire is random (well damage is also random). You can catch fire at 30 damage or 70, as long as you don't break first
    2. after you're on fire, your fuel leaks at a random speed, if fire stops before your fuel runs out, it will explode; if the fire stops after that block runs out of fuel, the fire will be extinguished and you can keep that part.

also please give us a better way to extinguish fire, other than soaking underwater.

I'm curious on how realistic it needs to be to be considered "realistic"...
what about my SU1946 series? They have modern performance (or even better) in a WWII-ish plane, but they are definitely not UFOs.... or maybe they are (as they turn in 30+ Gs)

I'm not sure if I can make something that actually stand a chance anyway...

  • SimpleWings 5.8 years ago

    @MOPCKOEDNISHE
Hey, I found out a way to replicate the "roll jerk" issue in vanilla wings (the same problem that happens with variable wing)
It seems that the sudden roll movement (roll jerk) came from the CoT being behind the CoM, but in front of the tail.

CoT behind CoM creates an unstable situation, when you are not flying perfectly straight (which is almost always impossible), such a configuration would cause a turning moment on either the yaw or pitch axis. The turning moment would then be cancelled by the tail fins.

However, almost no aircraft have radially symmetric tail fins. Most notably, to allow takeoff, the vertical stablizer would be focused on top of the aircraft, and the horizontal stablizers would be offset upwards, so when the tailfins are correcting the sudden turning moment, they would convert part of the energy to the roll axis, thereby creating a roll jerk.
For example, a sudden yaw to the left would exert force on the right side of the tail (for a vertical stablizer that extends upwards), pushing the stablizer left, while yawing the plane right back to normal, it would also create a left roll moment.

I am not sure how or if this works for the Variable Wing, but maybe this worths investigation if you want to try to fix the problem.
    Thank you.
