  • Do you know who the first player in the game was? one month ago

    @DatTrainAndCarGuy19 - yes, it does.

  • French guillotine one month ago

    @Graingy - I’m so out of the loop on this conversation, but that’s OK. Maybe I’ll post something to bring back some good memories of when I was more in tune with the community. I hope you are all doing well.

    @Mousewithamachinegun123 - Yes, they come and go in waves. People tend to drop off after finishing high school or exiting college.

    @Englishgarden - Thank you, yes it was a difficult build with tools we had at the time. We didn’t even have part nudging back then. All XML based.

  • TU-95 Bear (Please Read Instructions) 8 months ago

    @WaterFlavouredSpitfires - I’m partially responsible for a few of the devs getting hired, and I played this game a LOT with my son, who now leads the Formula SAE aero team at UTD. You can say I have an emotional attachment to the game. :-)

    @ArleighBurke thank you!

    You are a small team, so I expect that you will need to conserve resources for new projects. Assuming you continue on the physics based genre, I expect you will count on the strong community base when evangelizing your new product. My suggestions for you are as follows:

    1.) Remember that the game comes in cycles of new players entering every 4 to 6 months. Any new game that you create has to appeal to these new waves of users. Keep the bar low for immediate enjoyment (fun).

    2.) The greatest appeal of simple planes was sandbox mode. Remember to have a huge world and lots of options to explore, if you have a world at all.

    3.). For advanced users in SimplePlanes, many young people who started out years ago have become engineers, and use auto desk, or Star CCM in school or work. If your new game is design-based try to create a bridge into other programs, so creations can be used elsewhere.

    Best of luck to you all!

    Most people don’t know this, but I’ve had some influence over the hiring of a few of the Jundroo dev. Mostly behind the scenes stuff that most would never know about or understand. These developers are fantastic and I would easily hire them in my organization (I’m a director in a very large software company). The people, players, and community in SP are quite special and I marvel at the energy and dedication put into this platform. This game has shaped futures and has moved so many young people into related careers. It is the single most important game in influencing many young lives. I am grateful for this game, and I will always be a player.

    @PlaneFlightX - Walrus Sr. here. I never left the game, but my life is too busy to build these days. It is sad because Jr. has some sick designs that will never see the light of day since he is too busy to play, too.

    I never really left. I love watching the builds, and marvel how so many young players grew up here with some serious building skills. I think Walrus Jr. and I joined when there were maybe 150 players. @WormWithLegs

    The .50 Beowulf is a nice choice but .450 Bushmaster is a more relevant round, and penetrates steel better. After twenty shots your shoulder starts to turn purple with either round.
