  • Clickbait has gone too far... 6.9 years ago

@Minecraftpoweer I don't see any simpleplanes pictures on that link, probably because I'm not logged into google. It just knows you like simpleplanes, so that listing gets put higher up.

  • Overload 6.9 years ago

@weisofns where are you putting that? Make sure the capitalisation is right as well, for instance FireGuns and FireWeapons.

@ChicagoDude05 once you've downloaded the mod, opened it in simpleplanes to install it, enabled it in the mods section on the main menu, then go into the designer and the icon should be in the bottom left.

    @Barito911 that's not possible sorry

@Chancey21 rolling into a bank turns it just as much as it should. A banked turn is governed by very simple principles and the rate of turn only depends on (true) airspeed, angle of bank, and gravity. As long as these are the same and the aircraft holds its pitch stable then the rate of turn will be the same. see here

  • Colored Explosions 6.9 years ago

@Minecraftpoweer @CruzerBlade oh, it would be possible. Easily. To get the fire effect, the particle system changes from orange initially to black for smoke. It would be pretty useless though... like once the novelty of having a blue explosion wears off, what are you going to do?

  • Flight Camp Next Week! 6.9 years ago

@Chancey21 not only is gliding a great sport but it's a way into aviation. I won't go into the details now but there are a lot of advantages over power flying.

  • Flight Camp Next Week! 6.9 years ago

@Chancey21 I solo-ed at 14. Gliding is the way to solo young. In the UK, the gliding solo age is 14. Not sure about the US. It's fun though. And better than just stooging around in a cessna: you actually have a purpose.

@PlanesOfOld what platform? try deleting the mod from all places it is currently, launch SP to make sure it's gone, and redownloading. Maybe if that doesn't work try clearing your browser cache... I can't think of anything else

  • Overload 6.9 years ago

@Jacobdaniel you have to change dragScale and calculateDrag to modify drag. drag is reset during drag calculations.

  • Overload 6.9 years ago

@GIZMOTHECAT sorry, I may have set the default size a bit big. Get Mod Settings and change the UI scale to around 1 to 1.5 depending on your preference.

  • Overload 6.9 years ago

@AdlerSteiner dragScale and calculateDrag should work after version 1.0....

  • Advanced Targeting 6.9 years ago

@CH3COOH you can turn down the Max Simulation time to make it stop when it gets that far, or turn down the accuracy to reduce lag. Both can be changed in Mod Settings

  • Advanced Targeting 6.9 years ago

@MasterCreeper so, you tried to open the mod in Space Agency? and it broke the file? Just re-download it then, I guess. And I don't think it's compatible, space agency probably thought it was something else...

  • I discovered how to control the direction of the convoy (no mods) 6.9 years ago

Unfortunately trucks die after being off the ground for over 10 seconds or something, or at least they did when I did that about half a year ago... I made a quick mod to disable that and show the path they were taking, so I could park in the right place. I used a plane with a cargo bay and a helicopter with a grabber on the bottom...

  • DesignerSettings 6.9 years ago

@Minecraft44 once you have this and the mod settings mod you can open mod settings > designer settings. Then change the background colour field. It is a HTML-style hexadecimal colour code. You can use a site to pick them like this (you'll have to remove the #)

@BigCheese @TheEpicMOONHAWK you need to set the input to LandingGear (capitals matter, no spaces)

  • Martin Hammerhead STOL 6.9 years ago

@Chancey21 look at existing designs, sure it's in the future but people are still the same size and physics will still apply. Try and get the passenger subassembly to compare sizes at least (an average sitting person is 0.9m or 1.8 in fuselage). Try not to cover up your prop - physics still exists in the future.
Keep the wing area realistic and don't scale the wings massively.
Instead of powering up the engines to increase top speed, settle for a realistic horsepower or thrust to weight ratio and then tweak the drag (yes, using the dragscale stuff en masse is quite laborious but I will have a tool to batch edit in the future) to get realistic speeds. Because thrust and mass and wing area etc can be quantified by numbers and specs and only leaves drag to be found experimentally.

  • Martin Hammerhead STOL 6.9 years ago

You should try and make it more realistic...
    - Size is off. Try getting the passenger, (hidden part, you can find a subassembly somewhere, partType is Passenger-1. You could almost fit two floors of sitting people in that cabin if they reclined, and it's supposed to be a one-seater. The cabin itself is about the same width as a 4-seat Cessna 172.
    - Also weighs a lot too much (heavier than a 172 on max load)
    - Has way too much drag, so that despite having modded wing area (twice that of a decent glider), it's glide ratio is that of a brick
    - To compensate for the huge amount of drag you've massively overpowered the engines, which causes it to accelerate at roughly 0.9g forwards, and can maintain a climb of 50 degrees. The thing this is based on which only floats were added to claims "realistic performance". It does 0-60 in the same time as a Ferrari F50, but on water.
    - The engine placement is simply not feasible. Putting the engines in a reinforced airtight metal box would protect them from a propstrike very well, but blocking off so much of it is just terrible for efficiency.
    - It carries roughly as much fuel as a Cessna 208 regional airliner but with it's flight endurance of a drunk cockroach can only just about make it to Bandit from the seaplane hangar at water, and landed with 2% fuel. It uses 3% to take off.
You've put some work into detailing it, but it's better to start out with a reasonable design in the first place.

  • Derek's 3rd rant about AI 7.0 years ago

well, I had a prototype autopilot - SimplePilot mod a while back. Well, I still have it, and use it occasionally. It was basically a load of PIDs that you tuned mid flight hoping for it to work. I always had more exciting projects to do so it got sidelined. I was working on auto tanker refueling but that was a very precarious thing that required 10 minutes of tuning PIDs on the fly.... It would be possible I guess. One thing I wanted to do was to add different presets ie Large Cargo, Fighter jet, GA, glider, so it can fly them all properly. One thing that is a bit simpler that could really be good is being able to switch aircraft mid flight (worked on a mod, it kinda worked but the control system just isn't designed to work like that) and then a little UI to tweak the autopilot behaviour mode or settings. If you're wondering, the current AI modes it switches between are:
Default, Aerobatic Path, Buzz, Follow the Leader, General Path, Kamakaze, Land, Race, Random Locations, Take Off
however most of these don't get activated...

    @Chancey21 It's 6 alphanumerical (case-sensitive) digits. That's 10 (numbers) + 32 (upper and lower case) = 42 combos per character
    42 to the power of 6 (6 digits) = 5489031744
that's five billion combinations to try randomly. I think they'd notice the server melting.

  • Why Are there Even Cooldowns? 7.0 years ago

@RailfanEthan I mean, that's true, but not even the issue here. Handing out upvotes as a reward for a challenge or something is just abusing the system.

    +1
  • Why Are there Even Cooldowns? 7.0 years ago

Upvotes are designed to show builds that deserve them, that people have put effort into. They are not just a reward to hand out regardless, something to trade. If you actually took the time to download something and test it out before you click upvote, you'd never see a cooldown.
