Hmm yes, VTOL aircraft will perform nicely...
The advantage of VTOL is mostly vesatility; if your airfield gets bombed, or if you just fail to have one (e.g. the wilderness), VTOL aircraft won't care!

We have VOTL aircraft, just very few, and most of which aren't primary frontline fighters (e.g. TheMouse's Turtlelifter, which I believe is a cargo aircraft, or any of our helicopters, which can do VTOL but aren't airplanes)

Alright, to answer the question in the absolute shortest way possible: The Original M-War began when Monarchii stole a machine gun from MouseWithAMachineGun123 (Now TheMouse) as a joke, but it escalated into one of the biggest modern wars in SP history. Don't worry, it stayed civil, both in the war and in real life. In fact, it was a massive bonding opportunity, most if not all of us who fought in the M-War are still friends today.
Now as we approach the 1-year anniversary of the M-War (sometime in March), there's colossal hype about a second M-War, which will be a civil war between the two sides of the Monarchii (who lost the M-War to the MGLA, Machine Gun Liberator Allies, who got the stolen MG back after the Monarchii mysteriously disappeared). As for the two sides in M-War 1:
-The Monarchii, something of an actual monarchy whose head and namesake is none other than the whimsical Monarchii. Actually quite a nice guy, like I said the whole thing was just a joke that got escalated a bit much (Monarchii stole an MG, TheMouse declared war, CrestelAeronautics and I took it too seriously, and bam, now you have the M-War)
-The MGLA, the Machine Gun Liberator Allies, who were essentially a band of rebels who sought to return the stolen machine gun to its rightful owner. I was a member of the MGLA, as was Crestel, MIGFOXHOUND, and windshifter. We would win the war, and with no Machine Gun to liberate anymore, we renamed to MDA: Mouse Defender Allies. M-War II pertains the same sides, but with two others amongst the Monarchii:
-The Loyalists, people who are, as the name suggests, loyal to the current rule of the Monarchii, and wish for the old way that has stood forever to remain.
-The Reformists, the ones who wish to usurp the current system in favor of a new, communist rule within the Monarchii.

I believe you sided with us at the MDA (then the MGLA), but even if you sided with the Monarchii, the Loyalists (current Monarchii) and MDA seem to be on the same side this time, so it won't really be an issue :D
@Monarchii Idk man, that kind of comeback just could be stronger than steel, maybe titanium, but that's just my two cents... or lids I guess. Ran out of pennies, had to use Tin lids.

The MDA is probably gonna hit the sidelines in M-War II, unless things escalate to a horrific point we're probably just gonna be a supplier
But if it helps, you can still enjoy some indirect warfare: I doubt the MDA will give heavy amounts of resources to both sides, meaning that one will have more whilst the other has less (probably the Reformists getting less since they'll likely rely on weapons from other communist forces), so you can provide weapons to whichever side the MDA doesn't take.
Or if you wanna take the Chaotic Evil route, you could always choose to be the source of the aforementioned "horrific escalation" lol

Now the Monarchiian people are divided into two groups: The Loyalists, the members loyal to the crown who will fight for the Monarchii and want to restore the original order back to its former, Pre-and-during-M-War glory (I say pre-AND-during because the Monarchii actually was pretty good during the M-War, especially considering the MGLA had fully operational A-40Bs during basically the entirety of hostilities, being that the Anti-OP/Meme Treaty was established fairly late). The Reformists: A group/force resisting the old rule of the Monarchii in favor of a new, communist rule, in hopes that this new order will raise Monarchii into a new and more powerful era.
So essentially speaking, think of it like the Korean War almost (oh also @Monarchii I found the Sabre in my basement for the occasion let's goooo)
