    @JangoTheMango

To me, an argument is an opportunity to either help someone see the truth, or be shown the truth by them -- it's a win-win situation. But to most people, it's about winning and ego preservation, whether they're right or wrong. Lost an argument? No problem, just label the other person something negative (nasty, bully, egomaniac, etc.) so you can discard the fact that they were right, and your ego remains unbruised.

Second, there's this thing called projection, where the person is so self-centred that they attribute their own thoughts and motives to everyone around them. So I use an example of picking a fight with the Hulk, in the sense that "if you don't like outcome X, don't start a situation where outcome X is guaranteed." But the other person chooses to interpret it as "I'm the Hulk, hurr durr, behold my ego," which says everything about them and nothing about me.

Anyway, I'm glad you find this build interesting. Experimenting with different forms is what gave me my current understanding of the SP flight model. Your builds are quite good as well and have a unique style which is great, although I think presenting them against a detailed background makes it hard to see the details on the build itself. If you used a less cluttered background and zoomed in on the build a little, I think you'd get more attention.

  • Apollo-SD 7.3 years ago

@Jetspeed1001 That's the idea. It's based off the Command and Service Module of the Saturn V rocket that was used in the Apollo missions.

  • ReinWeiss E01M4S3 EX.Class_Singularity 7.3 years ago

Outstanding. If you used a shinier finish it would be twice as appealing.

  • Hypno-Stuka 7.3 years ago

@Stingray City of Angels, huh? Nice.

Check out the video as well, you might enjoy it.

  • SSBN Colombia 7.3 years ago

Nice. Now I'm tempted to build a submarine.

  • Leopard 1 Tank Destroyer 7.3 years ago

You have some very nice builds, but they're being overlooked because they're very dark and don't show up against a dark background. Try a designer background mod that provides some contrast and makes your posts more eye-catching.

  • Mule 7.3 years ago

@damanironman I never said it did -- at full throttle, it'll just keep accelerating. I've gone up to one million mph with another hover-build, there's no reason to believe this one won't do the same.

  • Hypno-Stuka 7.3 years ago

@Treadmill103 Thanks. You just made me realise I left a bug in this build. Both the sets of "blades" were supposed to be contra-rotating, but I forgot to hook up the second set to the correct input. Oh well. It still works. If you VTOL up you can see the problem.

  • Sled Zeppelin 7.3 years ago

What's in a name? That which we call a plane
By any other name would fly as smooth. @Kevinairlines

  • Apollo-SD 7.3 years ago

Thanks, @RailfanEthan. That's a serious obsession with beans you've got there...

  • V-27 Canon 7.3 years ago

Great design. I like how you included a magazine, fluted barrel, telescopic sight, and everything.

  • missile box 7.3 years ago

@birthdaysnake Yeah, I made a very big, very slow cruise missile powered by a Cleaver. I never posted it though.

  • missile box 7.3 years ago

I haven't flown many missile-powered aircraft before this one, but this flies very well. Clever. But if you want to make complex builds, you'll have to use engines, and modded ones at that.

  • the amazing roto rocket 7.3 years ago

Wow, this is an amazingly creative way to do vectored thrust. Ingenious. Very nicely done. Now just learn how to make your builds visually interesting, and you'll get the attention you deserve.

  • Mig-25X 7.3 years ago

@Stingray I rarely use missiles myself, they're just not as effective as my custom weapons. But if using cleavers, if you fire them in very closely spaced bursts of three or four, you have a guaranteed kill of the Snowstone defenses. I don't know if you have this on mobiles/tablets, but on desktop there are two laser guns on either side of the missile launchers. If you drop a bomb or fire a missile at the launchers, the lasers will shoot it down. So you need enough to overwhelm the laser guns. You need to fire them close together, but not too close, otherwise when a laser blows up one missile, the rest blow up from sympathetic detonation.

My dive bombers, and the carpet bomber can all take out Snowstone with high reliability (8 out of 10 attempts if starting fresh, 10/10 with some warmup).

The plasma shotguns make it too easy all over again.

My long-range mortar is the easiest, no-skill-required, but slow way to guaranteed-kill all the defenses. Spawning at Wright, it takes 3 minutes 20 seconds to take out Snowstone (35 seconds to prepare for launch, and 2 min 45 seconds shell flight time).

  • Mig-25X 7.3 years ago

@Stingray What do you mean, lacking missile elimination? The first thirty seconds are all about shooting down incoming missiles and destroying the missile launchers.

  • Talon 7.3 years ago

@birthdaysnake Your bp-1 is a very good plane, especially for someone with just six builds. The shape is very aerodynamic, and it flies quite well. About the only thing you got wrong is the placement of the rear landing gear -- it's too far back. It needs to be just behind the center of mass. Another thing is that the wings are too thick - for a supersonic-looking airplane like this, they need to be like knife blades.

To build high-performance planes, you'll need to get into XML modding. Try my parts kits here, here, and here. The first one has pretty much all the modded parts I use (fuselage blocks with different massScales, engines with different power outputs, and scaled wings).

To get better, first, get the fundamentals of flight right. You're already off to a good start. The other thing that'll help you the most is learning how to use fuselage blocks.

You can look at my earliest posts to see how to use fuselage blocks to create lots of different shapes.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask, I'm always happy to answer.

    @TheBlueRobotProduct Hmm, probably not.

  • Mig-25X 7.3 years ago

@Stingray so what did you think of the video?

  • Mig-25X 7.3 years ago

@Stingray Or, you know, I could post a video. First attempt, no edits.

"A man's word is his bond."
-- James Bond (well, not really)

  • Mig-25X 7.3 years ago

@Stingray Are you saying you don't believe me? :)

  • Mig-25X 7.3 years ago

@Stingray Why glide when you can use a hover-type build? I did it months ago with Daedalus. A small enough hover-build can go anywhere, including inside the boathouse and the pyramid, land on the bridges, etc.

  • Audacius 7.3 years ago

@TheBlueRobotProduct Yeah, because in one dimension you can only control the cornerTypes of the fuselage blocks, which limits the kind of shapes you can make in one go. You only have full control over two dimensions, partial control over the third. So you couldn't ever do a full-featured 3D modeling interface like in CAD software like 3DS Max, Maya, Modo or SolidWorks without changing the game engine fundamentally. I wouldn't even want to think of implementing one of those interfaces on mobile, it's simply not possible. So if there's ever a game that lets you create your airplanes out of meshes or NURBS or whatever, it would only be able to run on high-end desktop computers. It would be one hell of a game, though. It could be the first game in which players actually evolve the game itself by creating increasingly-complex vehicles. You'd make it so they would be able to tweak the AI, so they could script missions, create short movies, etc.

There are multiple versions of my program, or multiple programs if you prefer. Most of them are parametric functions that generate things like nose cones, smoothly curved sections, hollow cylinders, etc.

  • Mig-25X 7.3 years ago

@Stingray Number of ways I have killed the Snowstone defences:

There may be a few more that I can't think of right now.

Not sure whether it should be a default location -- not being one gives the players incentives to come up with ways to overcome the defenses.

  • Apollo-SD 7.3 years ago

    Glad to hear it, @EliteArsenals24

  • Audacius 7.3 years ago

@TheBlueRobotProduct Yes, I wrote a bunch of programs. Not sure what you mean by 2D or 3D. The output is clearly 3D, but it doesn't have a 3D user interface if that's what you mean.

As for your other question, I'm not sure what a 'plane looking plane' means to you. Is this or this a plane looking plane?

  • Mig-25X 7.3 years ago

Nice. I prefer to fire missiles using FireWeapons because that lets you carry more missiles, for one thing, and still fire them in bursts of 2, 3, or however many you want.

I don't usually add missiles to my builds because I think that they take the skill (and therefore fun) out of hitting targets. A guns-only kill, especially air-to-air, is the most exhilarating thing I can imagine. I've got some finely tuned dogfighters that make dueling with the AI quite fun, if not exactly challenging.

  • Hot Rod 7.3 years ago

@JetCarRacer Maybe that's why you're not getting the upvotes you deserve, people are thinking you're me... This thing (and your other builds) deserve a lot more upvotes than they've received.

@jamesPLANESii I would never use that shade of pastel yellow...

    @Othawne

So you asked me a question, and I answered it comprehensively (and politely, and humorously), and that constitutes harassment? Thanks, I can always use a good hearty laugh.

It's a bit like an average wimp picking a fight with the Hulk, then complaining that he got bruised.

    > You could've just said ''Not for me no''

I'm sure you'd like everyone to behave in a way to protect your fragile ego, but the world, and especially I, aren't here to accommodate you.

For your own sake, I hope you toughen up a great deal, or life is going to be very... hurtful for you.

@Othawne I love it when someone's defeated in an argument and the best they can do is "Ooh, you wrote a novel" and "I'm allowed to have my own opinion." Compelling arguments, those. Enjoy clinging to your incorrect and indefensible point of view :)

And it's a pity that you think I'd have to go "ape shit" to write that response... that's just off the top of my head. Sorry to burst your bubble (again).

    @Othawne

    Short answer

    No.

    Snarky answer

Why are you using SimplePlanes at all, isn't that cheating? Isn't the point of building things to build them with your own hands, out of wood from a tree that you chopped down yourself, and metal that you mined, refined and cast yourself, using tools that you built with your own two hands, like a real man?

    Even more snarky answer

Groog: Hey Threep, why don't we try walking on two legs? Then we can use our forelimbs to do cool stuff.

Threep: Heretic! Walking on all fours is the entire point of being an ape.

    Long answer

Whether you see SP builds as works of art or commodities or anything in between, the answer is a resounding no.

Case 1: SP builds are commodities

    • When you buy a car, do you select the best car based on its attributes, or whether it was built by hundreds of labourers working for years, or in a week using robots?
    • If you were looking to build a house, would you prefer the contractor who can get it built within a month using advanced building techniques, or the one who'll use an army of labourers to put it up brick by brick over years?

Case 2: SP builds are works of art

    • When was the last time you heard of a painting's value being measured by how long it took the artist to paint?
    • If some day someone comes up with a helmet that would let painters or sculptors realise their imagination instantly via a brain-computer interface, would their art be worth less?
    • If one artist painted something using software and an oil-paint-printer that allowed him to create a painting in one sitting, and another painted the same thing by manufacturing his own canvas, paints, and brushes from scratch, then painting while wearing a crown of thorns and sitting on a bed of nails, do you think the second painting would be better than the first?

Sane people care about the end result. And if the method of production matters, sane people prefer the one that's more efficient.

The entire history of mankind's progress is about using technology as a force multiplier. Building pyramids using thousands of slaves is not only not admirable compared to building a skyscraper using a relative handful of heavy machinery operators, it's downright pathetic. If anyone proposed building pyramids today using ancient techniques, they'd be laughed at.

People who put "this took me X weeks to make" in the description are using amount of effort as a proxy for creative merit.
