The F-111B was done dirty by the US navy and to a lesser extent the government. The US navy wanted an aircraft that could fly almost twice as far as the F-4, while being shorter in length (it's worth noting the US Navy had the A-3, which was comparable in range and payload to the TFX spec, so then knew the approximate size the aircraft would need to be).
The government called them out on this and the US Navy conceded that the aircraft could have a folding nose to meet the length spec... which as you can imagine made the world of difference.
The US navy then proceeded to exclusively communicate via post and when in person meetings with the USAF did occur, they sent personnel with comparatively little authority.
Saying the US Navy had a chip off their shoulder for the F-111 and having to share the project with the USAF is putting it lightly. They seemingly actively went out of their way to hinder the project at any cost.
During the weight reduction program, General Dynamics proposed the Colossal Weight improvement program, which would shorten the aircraft by removing the internal weapons bay, replace the ejectable cockpit with standard ejection seats and reduce the range requirement to lessen fuel load for a lighter aircraft. For all intents and purposes, this was essentially and F-14 with a side-by-side cockpit and perhaps slightly less agility.
The US Navy refused this and insisted on the internal weapons bay, range and ejectable cockpit capsule.
It's also worth noting GS did not immediately bin the concept after it was rejected, but kept it around as a fallback option.
So imagine GDs surprise when the US Navy departs from the TFX program to pursue an aircraft with none of the features the US Navy originally insisted on and instead opted for an aircraft that had less payload, less range, less carrier operation flexibility (F-111B had slower wind over deck speed requirements and could land at slower speeds with a larger payload), weirdly more compressor stall issues, a much greater price tag and all for an aircraft which had the only notable improvement of being a better dogfighter with an ever so slightly smaller deck footprint (both aircraft were actually basically the same size when the F-14s wings were stowed and the F-111Bs nose was stowed). And of course all the benefits of a joint program through scale of economies went out the window too, which ironically doomed the F-14 before it even got off the ground,
@StockPlanesRemastered I'm not sure I'm allowed to comment too much on it as it's not really my place to do so, but I will quote Dorian from their post on the stock crafts: "The SimplePlanes 2 Flight Demo contains a variety of brand new stock crafts using the new goodies the game has to offer, with many more planned for the full release and potentially beyond."
I probably disappointed a few people in going with an F-111B based build over an F-14. But it's the one that offers the most difference against the Super Wasp and it gave me the most creative freedom over what could be stuck onto it.
It was also objectively the better plane out of the 2 for me. It was more multirole friendly, possessed longer range and better loiter time, carried a heavier payload, carried more fuel, was more efficient with said fuel, didn't suffer nearly as badly with compressor stall issues, had less takeoff and landing restriction and most importantly would have exploited scale of economy cost and development benefits with the F-111A and later variants.
The only downside was it wasn't a dogfighter. It was never meant to be, but the US Navy at the time were a bit fickle minded and saying they didn't like sharing a project with the USAF is probably the understatement of the century. They originally wanted a missile truck that could carry more and fly further than the F-4, but would somehow be shorter. The US Navy through the A-3 already knew this wouldn't be achievable, but persisted anyway and then got very upset when General Dynamics and the US government said it was all but impossible. They also insisted on the side by side seating arrangement (USAF wanted tandem seating), and then got upset when the visibility for dogfighting wasn't good enough for the pilot.
They also decided halfway through the program that they wanted what was orginally a missile truck interceptor to suddenly be a nimble dogfighter... and again got upset when it wasn't. They then proceeded to leave the program and make the F-14... a plane that couldn't live up to any of the Navy's original requirements and spent additional billions of USD on a plane that was more expensive, worse in pretty much all metrics, but was better at dogfighting. Yet when you read articles on the plane, it's made out to be a big heavy thing that was all but a burden to those involved in the project.
So in a way the Stormvark is not only a nice counterpart for the Super Wasp, but it's also a metaphorical love letter to those involved with the F-111B and for making what was otherwise a fantastic aircraft.
@StockPlanesRemastered If you look at the craft instructions it does actually detail who made that particular craft, along with other useful information on what the activator groups do and notes from the creators. The Stormvark also has my current username and old username on the side of it.
@StockPlanesRemastered At the moment, the Stormvark and Super Wasp are the planes I've built. Both had challenges, but the Stormvark almost broke me to make and at one point I almost asked it to be pulled from the stock plane list because I was struggling badly with a flight control issue. Though as you can probably tell, I managed to fix it.
@StockPlanesRemastered I had retired from SP and haven't really played it for some time. Then Andrew waved a steam key in front of me for the SP2 playtest for being an ex moderator and suddenly I'm semi-back again helping make stock planes and giving feedback. Not quite what I had on my bingo card for this year, but I'm not complaining!
@Rob119 I wouldn't rely on other people to report things for something you're already going to be reporting. They could provide different or inadequate evidence to justify a ban.
When you reported said alt, did you provide links, direction, etc. on where this infringing alt behavior?
I say this because the mods usually do a pretty good job of banning alts if they're provided with sufficient evidence and direction on alt behavior via the incriminating account.

Just warning you that you may face a temp ban if you're found to have broken the rules in future. Obviously, I'm not going to personally count this as your third strike since it doesn't look like you've been warned before, but I strongly advise you read over the rules I've linked below to avoid a potential future ban.

@DanielBrawner most of the work went into trying to work out what colours everything needed to be. From memory, it didn't take me much more than an afternoon, but it honestly depends how much detail you want to go into. I simplified it by grouping colours by material, but in reality, there's variance in everything depending on the age of the material, how long it's been weathered for, etc.
So it could be better... But I had and still have the attention span of ferret. So it is what it is.
Violates a Honda trademark (I appreciate this is a rather weird rule, but Honda have complained to Jundroo in the past). I recommend uploading it with a different name that implies it definitely isn't based off a Honda thingy, if you catch my drift.

This post has been removed because it violates the site rules. Mainly the use of foul language. I heavily suggest you follow the site rules from here onwards as continued rule breaking will lead to a suspension of your account and even a permanent ban depending on severity.
@AN2Felllla you're correct. I was referring from memory back to the items I learned in college. Either I misremembered the explanation or I was taught incorrectly.

@Embo temp banned for use of foul language as well as 6 other other rule breaking incidents. Typically, we'd perma ban a user with this many strikes, but they have a history of helping diffuse conflicts which has played to their advantage on this particular occasion.
@FeiWu apologies. I misinterpreted the mod notes, apparently. As it currently stands, you do not have any strikes against your account.
. However, it's been made clear to me that this isn't the first time a moderator has spoken to you. It sounds like you got off lightly both then and now. So technically, that last post should have counted as a strike against your account. Especially if another moderator in the know got to it before I did, so you're quite lucky in that regard.
@FeiWu good evening,
.
There seems to be a bit of a fuss surrounding your good self and some issues you have regarding some of the moderators?
.
I've been pretty disconnected from the site for the last couple of years, so forgive me for my ignorance.
.
However, your moderator notes suggest that you've tried to cause drama on the site towards the moderators multiple times, which has resulted in your account being striked twice already (meaning a further one would result in a ban). Obviously, that's worse case scenario. But perhaps there's a misunderstanding somewhere in the loop that would help de-escalate the situation?
@FeiWu I have removed your post as it could cause drama on the site. However, if you have an issue or issues with the moderators or a particular moderator, then either let us know on an unlisted post or alternatively contact the developers using the contact link at the bottom of the website.

I appreciate this is a somewhat delicate matter, so I'm not going to add a strike to your account or anything of the sort, but if you could provide examples of the questionable behaviour either here or on an unlisted post, that would be appreciated.
.

Unless it's very significant, a user is only banned -be it permanently or temporarily- after they've broken the site rules 3 times.
