This is a review of the stock vehicles in the Simpleplanes 2 demo. specific flight parameters such as top speed will be omitted for some aircraft as that can't be tested without a bigger map, but i will rate each craft on a comparison to it's irl counterpart, with size, empty weight, and top speed at altitude.
Starting off, we have the Adder by Dots. Based on the F-16 A and C models, the Adder features 8 hardpoints, with a mix of Radar and Infrared guided missiles. Although VERY agile the Adder (not unlike it's real world counterpart) tends to bleed energy going into turns or going vertical.
Scale: The Adder has a scale of 1:1 with the F-16 with slight difference in length, width and height. It has an empty and loaded weight of less than 1000lbs of error to the F-16 making it the closest so far in the game to it's irl counterpart.
Next we have the Aeon by Baconeggs, based on a Toyota Celica. The Aeon is a 2 seat sports car that's plenty of fun to drive around. Drifting is the name of the game hear, so look up the Scandinavian flick if you want to utilize this car! Trivia:
-the Aeon's former name was SB86, a reference to the Toyota AE86. Made famous by the Anime InitialD, It also featured popup headlights.
-with an activation group, the headlights are activated. Then, the trim slider can be used to independently move the headlights up and down. this is a common mod on popup headlight cars.
-Aeon appears to be a spelling change of Ion, as in the Saturn Ion. Could this be an homage to that car?
Next is the Bugger by Mod. It's not the little bugger no more! No longer based on a go-kart, The Bugger is now based on a true Sand rail... a common modification of the Volkswagen beetle. It's both stable on and offroad.
since i think the same thing about all the helicopters, I'm going to round them up together so without further ado, Based on the BO-105 we have the Bumblebee, The Jerboa, based on the Aérospatiale Gazelle and the Raccoon based on the Appache by Dots. The problem with the Helicopters is instead of the engine throttle being constant on as separate key or control, both throttle and collective are bound to throttle making them almost impossible to fly. BUT! There is good news! They are much more stable than the Gator, Which i did load in.
Let's look at the First stock airliner added, Not counting Juno's simpleairways from Juno, we have the Competitor by BaconAircraft. Based on the Bombordier Challenger 600 the Competitor is a twin engine business jet That's honestly too big for the map right now. It has a larger turn radius due to it's slow acceleration. It is after all, a small airliner. I can tell that with access to the full map it will become a favorite. Trivia:
-a less fun fact: due to its safety record, the Challenger 600 is now mainly used as a military transport.
weight scale empty 25855lb vs 27150lb

Now let's look at another car, the Cork. Probably THE most fun out of the bunch. The Cork is based on the Lotus Formula One cars of the 60's and has the handling to back that claim up. With a bit of practice i was running perfect laps around the race track.
Let's get back into Jet's with the Kicking fish II by HuskyDynamics01. No longer based on the F-16 as that role is now filled by the adder, the only real world resemblance I can find is the Viper Aircraft ViperJet in shape, and Northrop YF-20 in size and dimensions. HOWEVER!!! The Kicking fish is much larger with shorter wings, and only one seat. kinda like someone said "Let's take the Viperjet and YF-20 and combine them." And that's exactly what it is. It even has a centerline hardpoint. It handles a lot like the Adder accept it's not nearly as agile. But because of this it maintains its speed much better while maneuvering.
Trivia: Despite being a single seat, single engine midsized jet powered by an afterburning turbofan engine, Curiously, the Kicking fish retains its conventional elevators its had since its inception by the user BoxGlow, and does NOT have a "Flying Tail" All moving stabilizer like the F-16 or YF-20.

Next we have the Sand Frog by DeezDucks, and if i can some this thing up I'd say "obstacles? What are those?" based on a rally raid, This thing is built like Mike Tyson but has the handling of Muhamad Ali. It floats over small bumps and if you want to change direction, it does it...fast. It's slip traction can take some getting used too but you can use that to spin it around corners. It does have a cheat going for it though as it incorporates a gyro but this makes it very stable in the air.
Now lets move on to some more civil aircraft. We have the Simpleze. Based on the Rutan Long-EZ, The Simpleze, although visually iconic, handles about how you'd expect a Canard-pusher low powered lightweight aircraft to handle. But i can tell after some hot-rodding it will become a racing monster.

Speaking of racing, We have The only Rose Buffalo suitable airplane, The Stinker, Based on the Pitts S1 series. and I say it's suitable for air racing because it sure isn't an acrobat. It feels way too heavy and does NOT have the agility of an unlimited aerobat.
Trivia: The name is inspired by Little Stinker, N22E which can be found at the Smithsonian and is one of the earliest examples of the s1.

But enough about that this isn't a gripe page. Our last three stock planes are an ohmage to military air power. And with that we have the Stormvark by ShizzleStyx. A fictional Navy variant of the F-111 Aardvark, the first production variable-geometry wing aircraft. Remember the Hellkeska? based on the SU-24? Yeah this thing is that on steroids... and any other drug you can think of. With 10 external hardpoints alone, not counting the internal weapons bay. Plenty of firepower Although strangely set up for more air combat than ground combat...
Trivia:
-The F-111 was original designed for the Navy, but lost out to the A5 Vigilante.
The Navy reconsidered, and the F-111B was developed, but lost out to the F-14.
-The F-111 participated in a life flight in 1986 from Oklahoma to Connecticut. Making it the world's fastest Ambulance.

Next, and staying on the Aircraft carrier, we have the Super Wasp also by ShizzleStyx . Set up for Ariel Wild Weasel work, the super wasp is based on the FA-18E and E-18G. It has get up and is nimble under full power, but like the Adder tends to lose energy in the turns and once the burner comes off it loses it's turn rate.
Weight scale empty 28167lb vs 32081lb

Side Note the Legacy Wasp makes an appearance in the form of the new and improved AI Enemy jet. Being the only stock craft, albeit hidden, to utilize the BFE150, It is a formidable opponent at any altitude.
Last, and strangely my favorite (the radiator cooler intakes grew on me) We have the Whistler by Mod. This Homage to the F4U corsair is currently the only conventionally accessible WWII fighter in the game, and is based on the F4U corsair albeit with some minor design changes That honestly make it more Muscle car like which is what i think of when thinking about the corsair. Although it's speed is limited to below 400 mph it has acceleration and climb rate going for it. It's performance doesn't bleed off at high altitude like other aircraft, either making it a tough opponent even for korean war era jets up there.
Stats:
Speed scale: 420mph vs 446mph
weight scale empty: 9,925 vs 9205
loaded 12,106lb vs 14,533lb
size scale : 91%
I probably disappointed a few people in going with an F-111B based build over an F-14. But it's the one that offers the most difference against the Super Wasp and it gave me the most creative freedom over what could be stuck onto it.
It was also objectively the better plane out of the 2 for me. It was more multirole friendly, possessed longer range and better loiter time, carried a heavier payload, carried more fuel, was more efficient with said fuel, didn't suffer nearly as badly with compressor stall issues, had less takeoff and landing restriction and most importantly would have exploited scale of economy cost and development benefits with the F-111A and later variants.
The only downside was it wasn't a dogfighter. It was never meant to be, but the US Navy at the time were a bit fickle minded and saying they didn't like sharing a project with the USAF is probably the understatement of the century. They originally wanted a missile truck that could carry more and fly further than the F-4, but would somehow be shorter. The US Navy through the A-3 already knew this wouldn't be achievable, but persisted anyway and then got very upset when General Dynamics and the US government said it was all but impossible. They also insisted on the side by side seating arrangement (USAF wanted tandem seating), and then got upset when the visibility for dogfighting wasn't good enough for the pilot.
They also decided halfway through the program that they wanted what was orginally a missile truck interceptor to suddenly be a nimble dogfighter... and again got upset when it wasn't. They then proceeded to leave the program and make the F-14... a plane that couldn't live up to any of the Navy's original requirements and spent additional billions of USD on a plane that was more expensive, worse in pretty much all metrics, but was better at dogfighting. Yet when you read articles on the plane, it's made out to be a big heavy thing that was all but a burden to those involved in the project.
So in a way the Stormvark is not only a nice counterpart for the Super Wasp, but it's also a metaphorical love letter to those involved with the F-111B and for making what was otherwise a fantastic aircraft.
@ShizzleStyx as for your decision to go with the F-111, I think it was a much better move.
Us players are expecting an F-14 but that's in part due to F-14s being present in every flight game there is and honestly that makes the F-14 overrated. At this point. The only game I played that featured the F-111 was HAWX on xbox360 way the hell back in the day.
@ShizzleStyx unfortunately I don't not have access to the playtest otherwise I would go and look at all the crafts. And for the demo, craft instructions were left blank.
@StockPlanesRemastered If you look at the craft instructions it does actually detail who made that particular craft, along with other useful information on what the activator groups do and notes from the creators. The Stormvark also has my current username and old username on the side of it.
@ShizzleStyx I can't believe I guessed right! (NOT lieing)
@StockPlanesRemastered At the moment, the Stormvark and Super Wasp are the planes I've built. Both had challenges, but the Stormvark almost broke me to make and at one point I almost asked it to be pulled from the stock plane list because I was struggling badly with a flight control issue. Though as you can probably tell, I managed to fix it.
@ShizzleStyx that's cool! Which one is yours? I'll be sure to be EXTRA scrupulous. Lol jk
@StockPlanesRemastered I had retired from SP and haven't really played it for some time. Then Andrew waved a steam key in front of me for the SP2 playtest for being an ex moderator and suddenly I'm semi-back again helping make stock planes and giving feedback. Not quite what I had on my bingo card for this year, but I'm not complaining!
@ShizzleStyx Where the hell have you been!?
Coming back out of hiding to throw shade at me is a bad look!
Kidding btw

@Cabbage17 can you link me to the wiki page?
Edit nvm thanks for the input
I believe the competitor is based on the challenger.
