@Nyamomin my personal answer is no speaking from experience.
Yeah sure this game has a decently large community with their own borderline private site (imagine if this site had the same traffic as twitter, wouldn't be so great), and yeah it has a reward system in the form of points
but the best part of it to me is the actual construction of whatever you can think of, and seeing that thought through to its logical conclusion.
seeing your own ideas come into visual rationalization.
finding flaws in whatever build you can think up and fixing it in the way you would like to fix it.
And polishing your builds to the best of perfection that your own mind can reach.
and then being able to share your builds with similar minded people: people who actually understand what you like
not just some random people who are like "cool" and then immediately change the topic
|
now did I reach platinum and 29something K by posting something everyday?
no.
instead, everything I've posted for the past 8.1 years have been from a place of genuine passion.
Now has whatever fuels that passion changed over the years, yeah it's an inevitability.
but the passion itself has never actually wavered to the point of "only points matter now".
at no point did I make my points on this site my incentive, now is it cool to watch them go up? yes, but that isn't my main concern for being here
|
long story short, don't pay too much attention to your points, and instead just do the things you actually like doing.
do that and you'll extend your mileage out of this game ten fold
@ToeTips while the reflective coating is designed do a multitude of things, the main 2 I've heard are to reduce it's heat signature and to (supposedly) reduce the effectiveness of directed energy weapons
Took it for a rip around Wright Isles
Other than THE SKETCHIEST takeoff (veered off to the right and I have a bunch of stuff around the airport including a convoy and obstacle course that I had to weave through), only some minor adjustments to the FBW are needed for it to be kinda flyable
Those are your points ranking on this site. They don't do anything too significant to your experience on the site, but they will increase by various means.
It goes like this:
-an upvote on a build post will give you 15 points
-an upvote on a forum post will net you 2 points
-a like on a comment you make will give you 1 point
|
But there also other ways to earn points indirectly:
| SPOTLIGHT
This is kinda like getting retweeted on twitter: another user on the site spotlights your build and all of their followers get notified of your build in their jetstream
| FEATURED
The devs think your build is good enough to be effectively advertised on the site. Do note It is EXTREMELY RARE as in my 7 year time on this site, I have yet to have any of my builds featured. So don't get too disappointed if you don't either

That's a basic sumary of the points system of Simpleplanes.com

"you just dug your own grave my friend, for revealing this to the world"
+3The name of this post made me think you were actually gonna do it
+3Spooky scary skeletons send shivers down your spine
Shrieking skulls will shock your soul
Seal your doom tonight
Spooky, scary skeletons
Speak with such a screech
You'll shake and shudder in surprise
When you hear these zombies shriek
We're sorry skeletons, you're so misunderstood
You only want to socialize, but I don't think we should
'Cause spooky, scary skeletons
Shout startling, shrilly screams
They'll sneak from their sarcophagus
And just won't leave you be
Spirits supernatural are shy what's all the fuss?
But bags of bones seem so unsafe, it's semi-serious
Spooky, scary skeletons
Are silly all the same
They'll smile and scrabble slowly by
And drive you so insane
Sticks and stones will break your bones
They seldom let you snooze
Spooky, scary skeletons
Will wake you with a boo!
I will admit to knowing the lyrics almost to heart
