"It's got a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas."
Welcome to the friendliest videogame I've ever seen online. Knock on wood.
Tip: It's perfectly ok to download modify and reupload someone else's stuff, but nobody will ever upvote it. It's better to build your own bad stuff than upload someone else's good stuff.
That said, if there's something you want to learn how to do, it's a good idea to download something that did it and rip it apart to find out how.
@Mustang51 Doolittle was an amazing person. He graduated from MIT with a doctorate in aeronautical engineering, the first american to earn such a degree, and was the first person to take off, fly and land an airplane solely by cockpit instruments (the windows were completely covered over). The 20's and 30's were full of amazing people like that, hence the series I'm working on.
@Mustang51 Yes, that trophy is the real thing. The UK gets to keep it for all time because they won 3 consecutive times, quite an accomplishment. As for WW2 fighters, I heard one pilot say that a good fighter fits like a good suit, you don't fly it, you wear it. Keep in mind tho, the Spit and Cane were both designed with some consideration for reliability and utility in mind. Not so for the S.6, the engine would literally start chewing itself apart after an hour or so because the engine ate oil at an alarming rate, the entire surface of the plane (even both wings) is covered in radiators just to keep the Buzzard-R from overheating. The radiators formed the walls of the cockpit and one pilot remarked it was "like an extremely hot Turkish bath."
@Mustang51 Man, you are reading my mind! Those floats are a real pain, but it is nice to be able to land almost everywhere. The Schneider Cup rules stated the plane had to sit in the harbor for 6 hours and fly the race with any water that had accumulated from leaks.
As for flying it, it must've been a thrill. Pilots praised the S.6's handling. But it is important to remember how monstrously uncomfortable those cockpits were: thr engine sprayed oil like mad (liters of it every minute) and there was little consideration for safety or comfort.
@Mustang51 I know that plane! S.6B S1595 was the first plane ever to crack 400mph. She's the improved model of this one, but I studied quite a few pics of her because they're so similar.
@CRJ900Pilot THANKS! I just hope people like it, and some of the really heavy-duty builders make some other Schneider Cup racers. There are quite a few awesome looking planes that were built for this race.
This thing looks AWESOME! You don't need mods to make the engines more powerful, btw, just modify the xml file. It's easy and you don't have to worry about nobody downloading your plane because of compatibility issues.
Holy crap! This is a scary level of detail. I don't think I've ever seen anything where they built up every single interior compartment before. Awesome.
@Stellarlabs Ugh. I just finished the cables, struts and instrument panels. 850 parts and I still have landing gear and the vertical stabilizer to go. Once I finish, I've decided that I'll rebuild it with a lower part count. Then I can just post the big one with a link to the little one.
Most people set the turret controls to sliders like VTOL. I think that's garbage. You can set the controls to Pitch and Roll, allowing you to control the guns exactly like a first person shooter. Here, check this out for an example.
@Alien You just fit the wing to a rotor and set the rotor input to "pitch." You have to fiddle with the max roation and they don't handle as well as regular elevators, though.
I've been experimenting with modded wings lately, and I'm beginning to think that building "fake" fuselage block wings and then hiding tiny, modded wings inside the fuselage body of the plane is the way to go. Either way, anything involving rotors needs to added LAST because they are very tricky and buggy, so its best to get all the non-moving stuff done first.
I can name a couple airplanes that have never been done. The Northrop F-15 Reporter or the Laird Super-Solution for example. But no one has made them yet, and I have no expectation of anyone making a competant build of them any time soon.
Some great pix. Did you check out their B-70 Valkyrie? She's one of a kind now. I heard they're working on a Mig-25 restoration, so many mach 3 jets under one roof.
I told you, 5 bucks doesn't buy enough gas to go anywhere in a rocket! This isn't a freaking Fiat!!!
+1Ok, tell the court your crime and we will decide sentencing. We are a just community, but firm.
+1The mic is clear, try running the guitar through that Big Muff pedal.

Shame about the lighter, though.
+1@communisticbanana Yeah, that's def a Peggy
+1WELCOME TO HELL lol jk

+1@Gestour LOLOLOL Ironically, the Brits had us beat by a mile when it came to speed before WW2. But I like that XD
+1Your build kungfu is very strong.
+1You've got a good eye for detail

+1Dawwwwww, look at this cute lil guy!
+1External validation is a trap best avoided.
+1@TakicraftCorporation Me too. So good when Im driving, or at work, or not dtiving or not at work...
+1Awesome car! Here's a little something for the tape deck.
+1Impressive
+1Double-ugly never looked so good
+1You gotta make one slightly fatter than the other. .02 should do it. If the faces are too close to each other they flicker.
+1Wings are too small, but good attention to detail.

+1We appreciate your honest and straightforward approach to sharing this information. Thank you and good luck.

+1Supersonic aircraft almost never have elevators, but this is a very detailed build. Good job.
+1@Dllama4 You'd be surprised how much America has contributed to Russian technology over the years... XD
+1Reminds me of that Russian oil burner, the Kusnetsov.
+1@Awsomur Good luck!
+1VERY #$@%ING COOL!
+1"Right past the canopy you say? That doesn't sound promising, old boy."
+1-Unnamed RAF pilot, 1956
And they said it couldn't be done!
+1@Sgtk I really like when people build lesser known, but historically significant planes like this, and you did a good job here. Keep it up!
+1I can name a couple airplanes that have never been done. The Northrop F-15 Reporter or the Laird Super-Solution for example. But no one has made them yet, and I have no expectation of anyone making a competant build of them any time soon.
+1Yeah man, you clearly spent a lot of time getting the shape right.
+1This thing is weird. I like that.
+1@diegoavion84 XD
+1She is beautiful
+1Some great pix. Did you check out their B-70 Valkyrie? She's one of a kind now. I heard they're working on a Mig-25 restoration, so many mach 3 jets under one roof.
+1Looks like the old Northrop F-89. I like it!
+1OMG I love this thing you built on here almost as much as I hate the ones Ford builds in real life! Awesome job!
+1@ForeverPie Make the interface more like rotors? Sounds good to me.
+1Cool concept, even cooler looks.
+110/10 Would fry unmentionables again.
Play around with gyroscopes a bit, I have a feeling they'll solve any problems you had with this bike.
+1Hopefully he doesnt get bored and quit, that dude built quite a few of my favorites.
+1@Potato21 XD
