@Dstroyer101 Yeah, designed by Ed Heinemann, the same guy that made the AD-1 Skyraider, the A-26 Invader, the A-20 Havoc and the A-4 Skyhawk. He kept his designs simple and focused on eliminating anything that wasn't needed for the mission.
@Razor3278 Heh, sorry man. At least the Interceptor can lock on to aircraft out to 9 miles. You can make some pretty nasty mobile SAM launchers out of them.
(1) Because there are about 500million P-51/Spitfire/Me-109 builds, but barely any IL-2 Sturmoviks / Macchi MC-72's / Northrop Reporters and they need justice!
@NativeChief1492 @Skyfalcon Well guys, there have been a few A-6 builds recently, one of which is actually quite well done, so I think it will have to be the Thunderchief as soon as I get finished with that pesky contest Boggy posted. Chief, if I do a good job on it, do you think you could do me the honor of throwing together a custom paintjob version?
I understand what you mean about landing, these 1960s planes have some terrifying stall characteristics. I guess you could hide a VTOL engine to simulate the way the Concordes wing used ground effect for extra lift, but your way is still probably a better compromise for this game. Awesome build, very impressive!
@RailfanEthan Steam won't let me play right now, but I can tell you the problem. Whenever you put the center of thrust above the center of mass, it pulls the nose down. If you put the engines unusually low on the plane, the opposite happens and the nose rises more than usual. With seaplanes, you have no choice, the engines gotta be up high. The solution? A big tail with large, strong elevators to counteract the pull of the engines. If you have access to mod tools like Finetuner, I would also angle the tail 2 degrees or so downwards (play around with it to find the sweet spot) so you don't have to constantly tap the pitch controls. Remember, control surfaces like elevators and ailerons only work above a certain speed, and the engine will start pulling your nose down AS SOON AS YOU TOUCH THE THROTTLE, so ease that throttle up slowly when you're close to the ground, ok?
This thing has some serious style, I love how the fuselage blocks form "seams" that run down the length of the plane. It also doesn't hurt that thing flies wonderfully.
@Weaverfish Yeah, I recently finished a divebomber read a lot about how low FFAR performance kept purpose-built divebombers in service longer than they should have been. That's not to say divebombers weren't great planes in their time, but their time should have ended once navy fighters started going faster than 350mph!
I was gona do a Hellcat a few weeks ago, but then @Mikoyanster posted his amazing Bearcat, and I figured Grumman had enough glory for one month.
@Weaverfish My mistake, I was flying it with full racks of missiles, once I got rid of them it turned much more eagerly and thats probably accurate. The flight model is fine. Great job!
Yellow will only affect anything if it's too high, too low or too far to one side (don't worry about front or back with it). Red always has to be ahead of blue, or the plane will do very unpleasant backflips and summersaults.
Nosing down? Your COM might be too far forward. Keep the red ball a few feet ahead of the blue one, but not too far. You can also try making your main wings larger or changing their airfoils from semi-symmetric to flat-bottom.
I can make a scope with crosshairs for you, but I can't assure you that the bombs will land where it points. Many, many users have posted smart-bomb designs over the years, I can link you to some if you're interested.
The cockpit in particular is very impressive. Usually for cockpits this detailed, people make it in miniature and hide it inside a block or something, but you managed to make the whole thing 1:1 I will probably need to study this build if I ever want to be able to make larger, more complicated designs in the future.
@jamesPLANESii @ChaMikey @EternalDarkness LOL This place is so funny. People tend to upvote before downloading. And most of the people who download can't upvote. There are so many gorgeous planes on here that have almost 100 upvote, but actually fly like a Ford Pinto. I downloaded one guys plane the other day, it was a beauty, but I couldn't even get to the end of the runway before it flipped. :) Still upvoted it though, it was beautiful!
Aaaaw man, I can't believe I let this thing sneak past me. What an awesome F-5! Even if it didn't have the sweet aggressor camo, this thing would be gorgeous!
You can put objects like fuselage blocks or wings inside of each other by shift-nudging them, or by modifying their coordinates using Finetuner, Overloader or by editing the XML file by hand.
I heard Lockheed made this thing with all flat surfaces because the computers they used to design it back in the 70's couldn't handle curves, I wonder if that's true. Anyway, awesome pick for a low-poly build, great work. ~~EDIT~~ You might wanna fix the bay doors so that they don't kill you if you hit VTOL up.
The sun is a mass of incandescent gas, a gigantic nuclear furnace where hydrogen is built into helium at a temperature of millions of degrees... SING IT!
Your minimalist designs make great use of a small amount of polygons. They fly great and run well even on mobile devices. I don't really understand everybody's preoccupation with experimental Nazi designs, but you seem like a competant builder that knows how to make planes that are fun to look at AND to fly. 8/10
HEY, NICE BUILD! My boss used to be part of the crew on one of these things back in the 80's when they were used for electronic intelligence gathering. He said it was pretty freaky landing on a carrier in something this huge. I'm a big fan of the engineer that headed up the design team for this plane, check him out. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ed_Heinemann
@Sgtk 13 degrees?! Usually wings stall if the angle of attack is over 10. But if it works, it works. As for takeoffs, remember that the tail won't help at low speed, if you bring your throttle up slowly, and let the speed catch up to the throttle, you should notice that the nose feels less heavy.
YAY GYROS!

@Someonetotheleft If you want to dumbfire missiles without locking on, give the pylon an activation group, useful for ground attacks.
Post the plane, I'll have a look. :)
I was wondering if anyone had made a North Vietnamese SAM site, but I messed up when I forgot to assume it was you. :)
+1@Razor3278 Heh, sorry man. At least the Interceptor can lock on to aircraft out to 9 miles. You can make some pretty nasty mobile SAM launchers out of them.
+2(1) Because there are about 500million P-51/Spitfire/Me-109 builds, but barely any IL-2 Sturmoviks / Macchi MC-72's / Northrop Reporters and they need justice!
That part is probably bugged out, try building a new aircraft with the wing and pylon you want, then saving the wing-pylon combo as a subassembly.
Nope, but you can mount your cockpit onto hinges/rotators so that you can move the lock-circle around manually without turning your vehicle.
I've had the most luck so far by disabling suspension altogether. Not sure if that will help, but that's my 2 cents.
@RMark1 Hey, thanks man, I hope you enjoy it.

Ah damn! I can't believe how good this thing looks. Such an awesome plane to pick too! Supersonic on the deck, I can't wait to try this thing out.
update YOU EVEN INCLUDED THE CANNON, this build is simply incredible, I love zooming around at 100feet trying to not crash into stuff. Awesome.

Check this thing out, it works GREAT and it hits hard. I was finally able to take out the defenses at Snowstone with these.

Not a bad looking plane, I'm sorry you've had so much trouble with it. Check out the fix I posted and good luck out there.

@JayAr See if you can post the plane on here and I'll take a look. Most likely you need bigger wings.

Can you link the plane? I can fix it in a couple minutes, I can also tell you why it's doing that if you're interested.

Make the ultimate 1930's bush pilot smuggler. A cargo plane with endurance, durability and excellent takeoff and landing capabilities.
@EternalDarkness Nope, but he does make gorgeous planes, that's pretty hilarious.
Hey, great build! These early Soviet designs definitely need more attention around here.
You went TOOOOO FAAAAAST and now you've gone back in time like Captain Kirk.
They see me rollin, THEY HATIN!

@helilover03 Yup, watched an episode about dogfighting over Korea.

@helilover03 Midway?
Post your project so we can look at the problem. There are so many ways to make something fall apart, it's hard to guess just by reading.

Awesome detail! I especially like the cables and three-tone tail.

@haidebiany WOW! I am very pleased you like it so much, it took a long time.
@Bluerobot11 Yes, it really does resemble the TBD-Devastator. I imagine many of the same engineers worked on both projects, but I could be wrong.
Hey, in my haste to be a smarty-pants I forgot to tell you that your plane looks great, good job!
