@AtlasSP Probably soon, heading back home tomorrow. Once I have access to my real computer, I can start making the artwork. Will start a new post soon so we can start hashing out the rules.

@AtlasSP I'm back, sorry guys, believe it or not, in the real world I work as a Satellite Communication specialist for emergency response teams, so I get dragged out to pretty remote locations where signals don't exist, and make them exist. A little taste of the real EchoWhiskey. @AtlasSP thank you for taking over while I was away. Still technically away (ironically the satellite communication expert is the only one working without signal), but found enough signal to get a quick message out. Lastly, thank you all for making the TD challenge possible. Sorry I wasn't really here for this one. I'll probably host another when I get back in a week.

@Alienbeef0421 Sorry, no Missles. I respect your input and though there are prop planes with missles it'd be a really short flight. The main goal of a TD challenge, especially with prop planes is how well you can engineer something, not necessarily building a replica. Which means things like engines, wing placement, weight distribution and how well it deals with damage plays a role in how well it can take down an opponent in close quarters combat. Though I respect your input, like with @belugasub challenge, finding a loophole does not necessarily mean it'll still fly (no pun intended).

I want to thank the community for their great approval and upvotes for this build. This dirt circle with cannons sticking out if it played a huge role in my interest in planes as a child. I never really had an interest in gigantic, borderline war crime flak cannons rail guns that shot down planes, but its kind of funny to think how those go hand in hand.

@ChiyomiAnzai Yes and no, believe it or not, on YouTube, a lot of people really liked prop planes. I had some people who wanted jets (hope we didn't scare them away last time around), but we definitely have more prop plane builders. Which is odd since I don't see as many prop plane builds on the jetstreams. TDI builds were great so it's going to be interesting to see what the community can put out with 5 weeks of build Time and 100 extra parts.

  • Thunderdome II 5.0 years ago

@ChiyomiAnzai @ArcturusAerospace, alright, since you and a lot of other players want to have more prop plane battles, I'll run a second Challenge specifically for prop planes. That way everyone can get out these creative ideas and everyone can get a chance to build their planes. This is a competition, so we want to make sure we are keeping planes organized by class.

  • Thunderdome II 5.0 years ago

@BdidiCorps it depends. If it's for cosmetics then yes. No XML modding that'll make your weapons more powerful. For example modding out the fire rate or spread of the shot can make it do way more damage at different ranges. In cases like that no, but if you want to make your bullets green yes.

Hey Guys, thanks for making this all possible. I'm going to realease a video sometime later on today closing out our very first Thunderdome and highliting some of the builds. I'll start a new post on what we should do next. Let me know what series works best for you guys. Fighter Jets would be cool but if anyone wants to voice their ideas please let us know. Other than that a special thanks to @AtlasSP, who made this challenge literally come to life.

  • OG3is Thunder Cup entry (Wraith Mod 1942) 5.0 years ago

    Score Sheet: 1-5

    Categories:

Fuselage: 2 Good ol' barrel body, like the Hellcat, I'd recommend having a little more transition for the cockpit.

Wings: 4 It's so unique, performance aside it looks really cool

Design: 3 Like what you did with the guns, and you did good wrapping the wings, making one end thicker than the other is an easily missed detail, but you definitely nailed it on this one.

Decals: 2 They look good, details got a little crazy around the tail, but I do see that they are there. Of course I can tell this thing is built for hunting which is just fine.

    Total: 11

Can't say I can imagine this plane flying in real life, but I definitely would want to. I looks like a heavy interceptor, which is perfect for the role it was built for. My recommendation is outside the competition I'd make a revised version. This thing is kind of crazy looking, but it's a good crazy.

Hey guys, just posted a link to a quick overview of how a Thunder Dome works in case anyone wants to host another one in the future. The video function isn't working but it goes over the rules is pretty good detail. Also, great @AtlasSP, good stuff on those videos. I'm working on judging the build and I might do a bit on the top three too. Sorry if I'm not very good at linking videos.

@Simplemike I can definitely see that, looks awesome, it's a pain, but in the ends it's worth it, well at least in this case... I'm my case is maybe about 3/4 of the time. That's or I start questioning my definition of effective use of free time.

@LegnaK yes, of it does nothing and is purely for decoration you can us it, and for decal, XML is allowed. XML modding that give your plane an unfair advantage is not allowed.

@plane918273645 awesome, @AtlasSP might be taking over in the future, but this is to see if it's even possible to organize. I've been running some mock dogfights with the two entries we got. So far it's been good. Without spoiling the details they were able to shoot each other down and even ram each other (with a survivor) without hitting the ground. I'll be running more traditional challenges as well, but your always welcome to take part in the Thunderdome.

  • Video Introduction #15, shipwreck 5.1 years ago

Hey @AtlasSP, just an idea, why not try AI Battle Royales. That's how I test planes, for me it's to make sure a plane design is effective, but it's also entertaining to watch two AI fighters go at it, you might need the free cam mod though. Each week an even number of players can submit a design (that way you can make a ladder for each match), and each design goes head to head in the dogfight mode but each plane is AI controlled so it's fair. Best two out of three moves up to the next dogfight, and at the end of the season you have a winner. I would do it myself but I'm no YouTuber, also you can make some SP challenges for the community. Just a thought. By the way, the link goes to video #14 but I found the video, nice work.

On a separate note it's cool to see my plane going toe to toe with the Ice Fortress. I know it's a Multirole, but that was some good flying skills. The Ice Fortress is not an easy target to attack directly.

  • XF-417E VTOL Raven Concept 5.1 years ago

@AtlasSP thanks, after watching the Aquila fly in your video I realized it wasn't very easy to fly, so I made it this thing. Way more stable, and it hovers with the push of a button. It's still technically in it's test phase but it might be good for your video, and it does feature stuff from 1.8 in case you need a 6th Gen VTOL

  • Introduction #12, the helicopter, and I received SP1.8 5.1 years ago

Hey @AtlasSP, I have a plane that might be worth checking out. It's an update from my last plane the Aquila. Completely new VTOL jet and this one is a whole lot easier to fly. It uses the arresting hook so it does showcase something from 1.8. I added weapon pylons as well so you can add more weapons as needed. I always like your videos, thanks, it's in the link below.

Definitely going to like and subscribe on this one, and thanks for featuring The Aquila. Also a little side note if your having trouble keeping it stable during VTOL just activate AG4, and it'll turn on the auto stabilizer for landing and hover. Cool video though, awesome.

@stig27 thanks, I've been trying to figure out how to get it to stop doing that. Before the update it automatically shut off the VTOL. I'll definitely be using that in the next plane.

  • Serious here folks 5.6 years ago

Fine, since your post is "Serious here folks", your CALL fleet can have a plane called an "Atlantic", or "Pacific" or some great ocean expanse the "Mediterranean Jewell" if you have to get really fancy. Your SA's can use planes named after mountains, for example "Denali" or even "Everest" and lastly for your RA's some craft named after birds, like a "Kite", or the "Fisher". At that point Google can do the rest, and yes the Dragon is coming along. Still drafting the concept and making sure the new tail doesn't come scrap the ground landing.

@Karzigg Good to see you too man. Been going through flight school, not easy or fun in the slightest. Kind of makes we wish I took the normal option sometimes. By the way, I built this one with you in mind. Figured you'd like the excessive armaments and armor. The front Armor is at 1000 HP so it's good for dive bombing targets with guns. You have.

@Sableric I've seen some of his stuff, This is more of a silent nod to Elite Dangerous. Plus I'm training up to be a pilot so these builds let me practice maneuvers without getting bored of conventional aircraft. Crazy as it is, it actually works. Speaking of Halo, I'm actually working on a Condor for a friend.
