@Hedero I'm pretty that last video was just a test run of the dogfights so you guys can see it in action. @AtlasSP also does other videos too outside of the competition, so be sure to check out his page and post your plane in the comments. Just be sure to ask him if it's okay, I know a lot of the community shares their designs there. Don't worry the dogfights haven't started yet, your still on my list.
@Hedero You can definitely post your plane in the comments below. Just one thing I might need your help with. If your plane isn't on the final roster just remind me, but for the most part we're pretty good at tracking these things. Also its going to be on @AtlasSP channel, just check out his post and you should see a link to one of his videos.
@Hedero Yes, we're basically going to broadcast fights. If it's okay with you @AtlasSP, I think we should do it weekly, a first round one week (maybe over two weeks for round one because we have a lot of planes), next round the next week and so on so so forth till there's on last final matchup. I'll manage the fights and the rosters so you won't have to worry about that headache. Your call though, this is your area of expertise.
Rules for YouTube: Naturally the rules are if a plane wins two out of three matches then it moves to the next heat, however, since this is YouTube we have more flexibility. The community will be able to see each match. If the community feels that a match had no clear Victor then the community can call call for a vote. It then falls upon a vote in the comments of that video. At the end of the week or the release of the next video voting for that match will close, and the player with the most votes in the YouTube comments will move to the next Round. Let me know if this sounds fair to you all. I feel the community should ultimately have power on which planes moves on.
@AtlasSP well the matches are randomly selected, and I'll at least help select the matches and let you know who is battling who. I hate to say it, but if ends up that there are two similar planes fighting, then I guess may the best plane win. (Disclaimer: I think all planes are winners and this is purely friendly competition)
Hey @AtlasSP so this thing is growing bigger than I thought. It might be a lot of work, but if you still want to put it on your channel by all means, you'll definitely get some views. If not I totally understand, I don't mind filming the matches. I just don't want to bury you with this thing. Totally respect the work you do.
@BlackhattAircraft revise if you need to, the AI tends to yaw left and right and spray the target with it's guns, some cases it helps out to land some damage early on, but it can either reduce your accuracy. Plus this game is not rudder friendly on most of the things I've flown.
@Vanilla1c3 I'll check it out, you have time, just be sure to let us know if it's your final design. Entries close the May 1st so any testing and development is okay. This is an engineering challenge so I don't except anyone to get it on the first go around. For the sake of keeping things organized just try not to repost too much.
@AWESOMENESS360 yes @plane918273645 is right, you spawn in the air, but if you want to add landing gear you can. If you want to use thrusters and extra guns for decor you can, as long as they do not cause damage or give your plane any kind of an edge. The actual shooting guns cannot be XML modded in any way though, we need to keep it fair. No infinite fuel, you must account for fuselage size, engine fuel consumption, and weight. I dunno though @plane918273645, what do think? Extra guns, and thrusters that have no push for decor, and recoil effect, in your opinion is that go or no go?
@AtlasSP No problem, I'll get a list and also make a randomly selected matches for the planes. Some players want a second chance at reentries. We should definetly give them the oppurtunity. Thanks for your help with this one.
@BlackhattAircraft I'm thinking after the 1st of May once everyone gets a chance to fine tune their builds. Atlas is doing the dogfights for his YouTube channel so we'll see them there.
@TyDillon13GEICO of course, replicas are always welcome. We'll also have a best of show award for cool design and replicas. It's aside from the dogfighting, but it's another way to get recognized.
@plane918273645 that's a good point and there are fights I've seen where that happens. We can throw those fights out, but in some cases where a plane goes into a spin out and crashes that can be counted as a loss. This is the first ever Thunderdome challenge so it's probably best to see what everyone thinks about it.
Question for the community: Should we count crashing into water or a mountain a win/lose or should it be thrown out?
My call is it shouldn't count, however so everyone gets what they want out of this I'm open to opinions.
@Alienbeef0421 you mean disabiling the collisions so you can make rudders and flaps right? then yes. As long as it's not XML to give your plane a distinct advantage. For example uping the surface area or lift of a wing, giving your weapons a high rate of fire, or using XML to make you a smaller target.
@BagelPlane good question, for the most part the AI dogfight mode (should) spawns both planes in fairly. If for some odd reason one plane is spawned in an unfair place the match is is thrown out. If one craft rams another planes and one plane in able to still fly while the other is not flyable the flying plane wins.
XML is basically not allowed for this challenge, sorry guys but this is a test of our ability to build. That is for the exception of the "scale" or fine tuner mod. I live purely off the ability to shrinks parts on the fly, wouldn't take that away because the stock parts can be gawd awful (who ever came up with that mod is a genius. There are however some minor conditions to that, because you can (accidentally) XML mod with the fine tuner.
No XML Modded Weapons, this is to include scale mods, everyone must use the same amount of space, (no mini miniguns).
XML is not allowed on engines, you can make the engine bigger or smaller, but it must output the same amount of power and fuel consumption as a non modded one (just make sure the relative output box is left unchecked).
Fuel supplies must not be modded. Your plane must carry it's fuel into the Dog fight, and if you have a small plane with little fuel, you'll have to engineer your way out of that issue.
I know it might be a struggle, the engine you want to use or the wings might not put out enough power or generate the lift you need. Maybe the balance your trying to achieve is off, that's the challenge. The second half is can the AI fly your plane. I built some amazing aircraft the AI can't fly, so testing is key.
Sorry about that, well if anything else you can definitely take over for the other series, everyone wants an XML challenge. At least your channel will get some attention.
Hey @CptJacobson, here's your overly detailed torpedo plane. Not as mobile friendly as I planned, but I wanted to apply some of the techniques from my latest projects.
@BlueCitrus I'm making an actual challenge, don't worry. Like always you can make your planes a successor to the challenge, and we randomly match them up for head to head. We can still judge the planes based on looks too... Don't want to discredit hard work. Then it goes on to YouTube, and we link the video there. This is still simple Planes so we'll still of course recognize cool looking planes.
@BlueCitrus So things like changing the scale and even afterburner colors are okay. I'm a huge fan of the scale tool, I'd probably have given up on SP if I never had it, so it won't be completely vanilla. Even making some things not collide with other parts using XML is cool. Just no infinite fuel, weightless fuselage, super armor, or crazy rail guns. It's a test of building ability.
Simple, and effective, I do like how you used dihedrals to add stability, especially in a turn fight that'll be useful.
Well this is some seriously good work, and your way under the parts limit is impressive.
I do have to say, good work in the decals, and it looks like a really solid design.
@Hedero I'm pretty that last video was just a test run of the dogfights so you guys can see it in action. @AtlasSP also does other videos too outside of the competition, so be sure to check out his page and post your plane in the comments. @pura definitely, I'll check it out
@Badplanesdotnet no problem, make changes as needed.
Well this thing isn't shy about firepower
@CrazyCatZe as long as we can find it, I'd recommend leaving it listed so we can find it manually if we have to.
@Flameslinger it's going to be random. I think the distance planes will spawn from each other ranges between 1-8 miles.
@Flameslinger you mean placement of parts? That should be fine, especially the fine tune mod.
@Hedero You can definitely post your plane in the comments below. Just one thing I might need your help with. @AWESOMENESS360 No problem at all, sounds like you got something big in the works. I look forward to seeing it in action.
@AWESOMENESS360 yes @plane918273645 is right, you spawn in the air, but if you want to add landing gear you can. @BlackhattAircraft I know, the AI can really get confused, if you need to tune it up you got plenty of time. Looks good though.
@BlackhattAircraft Looks good to me, nice work, simple but well balanced.
Alright file received, now I know I'm upgrading the pounder, but I'm pretty sure there was one more plane you wanted me to take a look at.
Agreed, nothing like a classic, fits the parameters too and overall a solid build, Nice work.
@TyDillon13GEICO of course, replicas are always welcome. We'll also have a best of show award for cool design and replicas. It's aside from the dogfighting, but it's another way to get recognized.
@CptJacobson perfect, this will help out with the next upcoming builds, may need your permission to access though.

@AtlasSP also I was wondering if I could link your YouTube page to the Challenge? Haven't added it yet, but wanted to check first.
@Alienbeef0421 kind of a paragraph I'm sorry, but it goes over some key things.
@Alienbeef0421 nothing too complicated:
XML is basically not allowed for this challenge, sorry guys but this is a test of our ability to build. That is for the exception of the "scale" or fine tuner mod. Must Upvote, words cannot explain the awesome.
Sorry about that, well if anything else you can definitely take over for the other series, everyone wants an XML challenge. At least your channel will get some attention.
Hate to say it but it's a no go this time around. Really cool design, but don't worry there also an XML challenge coming up next.
@Armyguy1534 yes, that is okay. Just no super charging engines.
Alright the challenge is up here's the link below:
https://www.simpleplanes.com/a/KANm19/Thunder-Dome-Challenge-200-Part-Prop-League
@plane918273645 Now, look up the challenge tag, you should see it.
Well it sounds like everyone agrees to the rules, perfect, I'll get to work on a challenge.
@CptJacobson cool, this one was a test of the new build style. The next build can implement the new color schemes.
Right, sorry, sorting out new build requests, anyways new rules:
Let me know if this works for you guys.
@CptJacobson challenge accepted, already like the engines.
Hey @CptJacobson, here's your overly detailed torpedo plane. Not as mobile friendly as I planned, but I wanted to apply some of the techniques from my latest projects.
@doge thank you very much. The nose is a bit bare. Definitely something I'll do on the next build.
@BlueCitrus this post is so I can come up with rules for the actual challage, which will be posted some time today.
@BlueCitrus I'm making an actual challenge, don't worry. Like always you can make your planes a successor to the challenge, and we randomly match them up for head to head. @AtlasSP cool, does two weeks to build work out? That way your not rushed and everyone gets to really fine tune their builds.
@AtlasSP sounds cool to me, I'll start a challenge tonight. How much time do you want to give the entries?
@BlueCitrus So things like changing the scale and even afterburner colors are okay.
