@MasterManufacturingCo I will concede the following: The Ho-229 is naturally radar evading, boasting a 20% reduction in signature over the Me-109, so it has "stealth characteristics". I, however, would NEVER go to war in a Ho-229 over an F-117, because it's radar characteristics would just get its pilot killed in this day and age. It is debatable and the point of the Nat Geo doc that it's designers intended for it to evade radar...ok, interesting theory. I'm not convinced. Also, I took the picture I use in my icon. It's a selfie in a single seat airplane. Do the math, use your brain and I'm qualified to debate these points.
@MasterManufacturingCo OK, so I went back to look up the Ho-229 again, just to be sure I had it right wrt stealth tech. You probably saw the Nat Geo doc "Hitler's Stealth Fighter", which I started to watch. After the first few minutes where they said: "kept in a secret government warehouse", I nearly choked on my coffee. The airplane is being restored at the Garber facility in N VA (Smithsonian Institute), same people who run the National Air and Space Museum. So, the doc is sensationalistic to start. My points prior to getting off the soap box:
1. Northrop Grumman Aerospace (NGA) and others are interested in the Ho-229, the same reason why they're interested in the YB-49 or other early flying wings. The B-2 and the B-21 are flying wings and the shape is naturally radar evading. They want to investigate if anyone has stumbled across a technique that will help this nation's stealth efforts.
2. They make a big deal about the Ho-229 being wood...but don't mention that the Axis were turning to wood as it was easily obtained as metals were becoming hard to acquire during the latter stages of WWII. The Luftwaffe's Emergency Fighter Project, the British Mosquito and many other WWII aircraft were wood for that reason.
3. NGA investigated the designer's claim that he used charcoal impregnated wood materials as a radar evading material, but NGA never found evidence of charcoal in the design.
4. What caused me to spout out concerning the P-38 not being stealthy is the description of this particular build...modmaster claimed the P-38 was a "stealth bomber", which, clearly it never was.
I can go on all day on this, trust me, you have no idea who I am where I've been or how old I am. I assure you I know what I'm talking about. I yield the floor to you...
Ok, that was the coolest STOL I've seen in the game. How long did it take to get that??? No, that's the coolest landing, PERIOD, I've seen in this game!
@MasterManufacturingCo Ho-229 was not a true stealth, never designed to be that way. SR-71, same category. Either way, P-38 was in no way stealthy, never designed to be stealthy, word "stealthy" was never used to denote invisibility to radar at that time. F-117 was the first jet designed to evade radar specifically as its defense. That's why it was revolutionary. It wasn't even touched when it operated with impunity over the Baghdad Super-MEZ during Gulf Storm I. The P-38 or the Ho-229 or even the Blackbird could NEVER had done that and would have been blasted out of the sky if anyone had tried.
Well, at least we have the adjustable fuselage, I use it for probably 90% of all pieces in my builds! It really revolutionized this platform. Now, I wish we had more and different landing gear, intakes and cockpit parts, plus more easily resizable parts in general.
No, the P-38 was a fighter and there were no stealth aircraft prior to the F-117 in the mid 1980s. Nice build for a new user, keep it up! Check out my P-38...
@Squirrel you Mods do a great job generally, just keep up the hard work. The drama wasn't your doing and actually the Devs, Mods and users seem to have calmed down quite a bit, much because of your intervention. SP life goes on...
From my Democratic P-37A Lightningbolt description: Max speed: 390 mph at Sea Level (S.L.), 400 mph at 15,000'. Service ceiling: 30,000'. Approach speed: 150mph. During the Great International War, the P-37A, built around its 2000 hp, turbo-supercharged radial engine, was renowned for its performance, firepower and ability to absorb battle damage and bring its pilots home. The Allied Powers "lent" Jundroo 24 of these warhorses, but unfortunately for JAF fighter jocks, their time was spent patrolling the Jundroo St traits for a threat which never materialized. If ever it did, Jundroo flyboys joked they could unstrap and run around the cavernous fuselage to avoid enemy fire! Surprisingly, supersonic compressibility effects seems to have no impact as the straight wing prop fighter can dive at speeds up to 600 mph with no hazard, experiencing only a gentle pull up during high speed dives! less
Agreed, that would make the game more realistic, obviously. However I have a couple of planes that can land on the Beast, including a swept wing jet that goes 1000 mph at high altitude, my my Grommett F-7A Puma, one of the first I ever posted. Also, my NAC A-1B Attacker can land on the carrier, you have to use prop reverse pitch just before touching down with full brakes and air brakes. Challenging but fun. I also have a small straight wing jet that can do it as well.
How in the world are you going to clip the canopy over that masterpiece of a cockpit? I can't wait to upvote this one when it comes out, you have a new follower!
@dogspit he built a large community of followers over time who upvote his creations because they like his style...spend the time building a following and the upvote a will ramp up over time. It's frustrating if you're not there yet, but who expects to get to gold or platinum overnight? I've been here 5 months, I think and I have just under 2K points...but, who cares, really?
The community is NOT collapsing. Some high-profile players are quitting the community (perhaps some will come back), but the platform is still the draw and it's only getting better.
Rocket engines...high thrust, short duration. More intakes, including a round, resizeable nose intake and a resizeable round fuselage (side) intake would be great. Some way to make markings.
Played with it as well...used resizable wheel and small fuse pieces for new tail wheel, lengthened fuse center section to 3.25, made vert stab slightly taller, enlarged elevators, flies fine now and it doesn't really change the looks at all. It's unique for the fixed gear and slightly stubby looks, but it needs to fly right as well!
@Stampede thanks, it's amazing how some of the most ordinary of subjects get a lot of attention! This one is actually a lot of fun to fly, slow and easy.
@Sunnyskies I understand nudging is only available on the PC version now, correct? I tried it recently (using the arrow keys), but did not see the part move at all...

@Stampede Ok, Curtis Helldiver would be an interesting subject, then. Don't think I've ever seen one here.
Kinda looks like a a Cylon Raider with a tail...
Ok, that was the coolest STOL I've seen in the game. How long did it take to get that??? No, that's the coolest landing, PERIOD, I've seen in this game!
Happy Fourth!
Morbid curiosity makes me want to see if this thing really flies...😝
Well, you shacked the shape, alright, can't wait to see the final product!
Man, this thing is phat...I mean fat...I mean, what is this thing, exactly?!?
@MasterManufacturingCo, besides the props alone on the P-38 can be seen from afar by any radar out there, c'mon, really???
Grumman Wildcat would be cool. The gear would be tricky, though.

I think this one captures the feel of the Dauntless, nice!

I'm an Air Force pilot, guy, and YOU are wrong.

Why don't you mod this thing and make an F-100? It would make a very credible build, nice work on the intake.
The shape and proportions are perfect. Just wish it had around 100 parts as my phone seriously lags if I try to fly anything over around 120 parts...
XML edited?
@planesofold would you like to collaborate on my F-4K? I need markings...RNAF rounders, but they need to be angled...
Yes, I need one for my B-47

@KCferrari agreed a full up F-14 or F-4 trap would be awesome!

@ronyseptian17 ahhh, that makes sense, VERY nice detail
Nice, how did you make the tiny markings on the instruments?
@WeeBabySeamus wow, this is awesome and I don't say that lightly. I assume you XML modded the gear? How did you build the gear???
@dogspit he built a large community of followers over time who upvote his creations because they like his style...spend the time building a following and the upvote a will ramp up over time. @OldColonel you're welcome! How about all this drama?! I think everyone needs to lighten up and have more fun!
The community is NOT collapsing. Some high-profile players are quitting the community (perhaps some will come back), but the platform is still the draw and it's only getting better.
Oh, yeah, synchro gear for firing machine guns through the propeller arcs!
Rocket engines...high thrust, short duration. More intakes, including a round, resizeable nose intake and a resizeable round fuselage (side) intake would be great. Some way to make markings.
Of course. Everyone craves approval, plus it's fun when someone appreciates your creations.
Bring Back ccooper
Bring Back ccooper
I just noticed he's absent as well... @ccooper, where are you?
Coooool.....!
Do you want me to post the modded airplane?

Nice workaround on the nose intake, I wish SP would release a good, round re-size able nose intake!!!
YW...this is not a well-known subject to make a build from, but it's spot-on.
@EternalDarkness thank you, thank you very much! ;)
Very nice. How did you get the markings onto a slanted surface, may I ask?
Ok, any fan of Simple Planes has to download this one!
@EternalDarkness awesome hints, I honestly hadn't thought about ship building, so thanks for the insights!
@Sunnyskies I understand nudging is only available on the PC version now, correct? I tried it recently (using the arrow keys), but did not see the part move at all...
