1968 English Eletric Lightning F6

This plane is one of my all time favorites,
It was built when I was sitting next to my grandad, partly why I think it's so accurate, he worked for BAC in the late 1960's and early 70's and in the RAF in the 60's also, and has been an engineer on Vulcans Canberras Javelins Lightnings and various helicopters and transport/passenger types, he was also an engineer at queens flight, and worked on many planes that had to take the royal family round the world, now you have to be a trusted engineer to do that!

So I'm sure that this is one of the most accurate Lightnings on the site, and the 3rd I've actualy made and uploaded.

In the time it was active from the 60's to the early 80's the lighting was The fastest plane in the RAF's arsenal, it had the fastest climb rate of anything at the time and shot up like a rocket to intorcept Russian training flights, they protected the V bomber bases, and they were extremely effective at what they were meant to do. They were exported to countries such as Saudi Arabia, and also filled in as ground attack planes, they were armed with 2-4 (depending on type of lightning) missiles and sometimes cannons, (shown he as miniguns. They would be under the fuselage normally but if I put wing guns there they blew up the plane lol)

In USA-UK training missions the lining always went out on top of most American fighters untill the late 70's and its only real rival in speed was the so called 'flying coffin' LockHeed Starfighter.

It's design was unique and there will never be another plane like it, I am so sad that I wasn't alive when they were around doing airshows in the UK ... The last lighting airshow were in Cape Town, and they are no longer taking place after a malfunction caused a crash a few years ago...
