    yeah conservation is great and all. But we kinda running out of materials, and unless these airframes can be re-engined with cleaner engines and restored to operational service, they be kinda useless.

  • IDK Why But... 4.1 years ago

    Not sure if this is of any help, but mute out the pressure, and distract yourself to just finish the build and move on, and not to think what people think of it. And also, modulating builds saves a lot of time and as well as simplifying quality control, so for builds, build the cockpit, Wings/undercarriage, tail assembly separately, then assemble them together. And hopefully, since you may have saved them as a subassembly, you could use them for later use, Custom engines from experience are the most utilised sub-assemblies, jet, prop, fan, combustion, steam. whatever. And modulating cockpit features such as instruments, dashboard, yoke/ stick, seats, misc. items, you name it can save at least a month's worth of agony over quality control.

    But I digress, dont feel pressured. No one will shout at you for missing a bolt or rivet head in a build. Though if someone did, ignore them. or be petty and send them a link to sketchfab or equivalent.

    Trial and error, and lots of Xml editing, usually test fly or set sail until the flying boat in question reaches take off speed, reduce weight of aircraft through reducing fuel, dead weight or xml editing again to ease the take off process. If your flying boat has engines mounted above the center of mass and rolls over at take off speed, set a part in the bows with buoyancy 100% with dead mass at 1000lbs, that way it may prevent a roll over@Blyatnov

    @klm747klm747

    I really appreciate the attention to the livery detail, but the flight model is quite confusing for me. The rudder especially, moves so slowly that it's almost impossible to control the plane on takeoff and landing. The elevators and ailerons also take their sweet time, which leads to the plane being a "whale". Also I'm really missing that nice A330 gear tilt and suspension. Last thing from me would be the spoilerons, it takes less than a minute to code them. Actual last thing, you've got one extra flap canoe on those outboards. There's a couple more but I don't want to be a bore. Those were just some tips for you because I see you are trying to be realistic!

    I dunno man, these are last year's problems now.🤣

    But in seriousness though, I'm in for constructive critiques, I mean its one of the more effective ways one could reflect upon to further improve their builds, I am glad you brought up spoilerons to light, I didn't know they even existed, or if they're even universal to all aircraft, I'll code them in on the next opportunity if time allows, not exactly the type of person to cook up the perfect FT code by a finger's snap, but I'll get there eventually.

    Now about the fairings, I promise they were meant to come off, and totally not hinting as to what's the next aircraft I'll work on.😅

  • Douglas DC-10-30 Malaysian Airline System MAS 1.3 years ago

    @Tang0five

    What a masterpiece! How long does it take you to sort out engines on your builds to get the right sound, speed, power etc?

    Tuning the engines didn't take much time, the two goals per se when tuning an engine thrust is that A) Takes off realistically, and B) Can reach Wikipedia Top Speed. There's more checks to check if the engine is realisticallishly tuned, but if A, and B are good, the rest generally checks out.

    Sound-wise, it used to be easy. I discovered some years ago I think on my DC-8-32 Eastern project that sounds of the Blasto BFE150, and Blasto BFE300 creates a fuller sound, in essence BFE300 acts as treble for the high pitched sounds, and the BFE150 acts as bass, to simulate the sound of massive mass of air being pushed.
    Sound-tuning got more in-depth when I posted my DC-8-32 Eastern Airlines to account for engine idling. Doesn't take long I feel, sound tuning was more or less eye-balled一 ear-balled if you will, whatever sounded the most sense for the given engine.

  • Boeing 787-9 Air China 2.3 years ago

    @Tang0five

    Absolutely terrific I love how many features
    you can pack into your builds without getting
    ludicrous with part count! Is the China flag
    supposed to be reversed on the stbd side? I
    only noticed as I’m trying to finalise a civil
    build myself with livery and wanted to see
    how the experts manage!

    From the reference images, and first hand witness such as I, the Flag of China is indeed mirrored on starboard side of an Air China livery. At least, that is how I recollect it.

    Top job, quite a smart way of depicting
    passenger windows on an airline!

    I've been waiting forever for this since the first 747 I've built. Thank goodness windows no longer pose the biggest challenge to reduce part count.

  • Boeing 747-8i Transaero Airlines 2.3 years ago

    @klm747klm747

    Augusta81 Lol some of them would take 10 seconds to fix.

    I love your suggestions, and your dedication to build industrial grade planes for Simpleplanes, but Augusta is right. A majority of these are way too ambitious in the time restricted and time crunching time frame I was in even if it takes 10 seconds to add, because remember; I had to work on this Boeing 747-8i Transaero, Boeing 787-9 Air China, Washington & B.C, This Teaser Video, and everything else that was going on outside Simpleplanes all in the month of December and the fortnight leading up to it. Which is reaalllyy not easy to pull off.

    Some of what you had said had considered adding days before Boxing day but otherwise dropped because there's not enough time; 2, 5, 8, 19

    Others are unfair to be judged because of a typo, or the game's limitations, as it utilises default parts to save on part count sacrificing flexibility for stability: 21, 22, 26

    1) Sounds a lot like NAV mode, when my only concern is to have the ability to manually control while in autopilot, and return to level flight after letting go of the yoke.
    16) is a design choice I've stood by for two years, debuting in my Sud Aviation SE-210 Caravelle III Air France, it simplifies builds to a point that it is actually possible to whip up a wing assembly in two days, two days that would have became two months if I tried to do anything uber realistic, two months I never had at the time.
    14) was present in my Boeing 727-200 NWO, no one noticed, omitted to the rest of my projects to save time since no one noticed it.
    12, 15, 18) Would have required a set of landing gears that requires more than one rotator that will only work on MEDIUM or HIGH physics setting, settings I would avoid like the plague on the basis that not everyone can play in those settings. The current set of landing gears I have is good enough for the task they're entrusted to: to support the aircraft in any physics settings, and not bug out the game. I'll say it again; no to 12, 15, and 18, until Simpleplanes becomes optimised enough to support 12, 15, and 18 in low physics settings.
    17, 19, 21) Calls for a FT coding that I do not yet possess the knowledge of.
    20) Is a conscious decision to allow the plane to turn tightly, works best with AG3 on as it now steers like in Euro Truck Sim 2 as long as mouse control is enabled.
    11) I've done before, looked weird, this sufficed
    23) My only concern is to prohibit the plane from flying @ 90° pitch and gaining speed at the same time, any alterations I do makes the plane too slow or perform poorly at takeoff.
    24) Its been calculated properly; 446,216lbs Loaded Weight - 268,317lbs Empty Weight = [177,899 lbs Fuel weight]. its 200 lbs more than displayed due to rounding numbers, otherwise, it weighs exactly as much as it should display.
    9) Was supposed to be an easter egg to the actual 747 Transaero operates.
    3) is an issue, I'll fix it right away

    As for the GEnX-71B, its obviously a typo. What it meant to say was; GEnX-1B70 as it shares the same sub assembly as my 787-9 Air China to save time.

    Not sure how nice you wanted this plane to be, but please understand that some users build planes not for the bourgeoise elite who can afford a beefy computer, but for the general masses to fly and experience. The ideas are good, but the executions in mobile could make the build falter.

    can I make a pan am 747-100 out of this?

  • Boeing 787-9 Air China 2.3 years ago

    @SyntheticL

    天堂 heaven is rather rarely used in chinese since it somehow has the meanings on
    the opposite (especially aviation).
    Suggest remove the third image because it might stir up debate since in chinese it
    might be understood as flying to death.
    I guess your original english text was "Let us fly toward the heaven"?

    Then let's hope my teacher won't see this. But in my defense, my Chinese is diminishing, the thumbnails were made in the late hours of the night and brainfarts are a common occurence, and from what I remember, 天 is something to do with sky or day, and 堂 is a hall or large room. Perhaps in my weary state, I've concluded 天 + 堂 = Air routes/ Vast sky.

    I was thinking of using "我们帆在天" before giving up and used Google translate instead which got me the 天堂. Would it have been better to use 天 alone or will it always be synonymous with death in one way or another?

  • Boeing 747-8i Transaero Airlines 2.3 years ago

    @Amirabadi

    what does mouse steering (AG3) do?

    Its a steering system based in eurotruck 2 as in using the mouse to steer the plane by roll input. First premiered in my DC-8-32 Eastern to fine tune taxi procedures. The text below is directly ripped from the post.

     ` Activate3 = 0 ? Yaw : Roll `
    It's nothing fancy but it can be very convenient for PC users who can only steer
    hard right/ left. This way, the nose gear can be controlled by a mouse or trackpad
    like in Eurotruck 2 by activating group 3, and right clicking to enable mouse
    control, by using Roll as an input since roll's axis traverses left to right.
