History

The lightning Aircraft Industries GB-10 was introduced to the Royal Canadian Airforce in 1959 during the cold war. It had been designed as an interceptor that could reach a speed of almost twice the speed of sound. This was possible because of the delta wing and the powerful LAI VF-90 turbo-jet engine. Also thanks to this engine, the GB-10 could climb at full power with an attitude of 60%. It was very close to being able to compete with the BAC Lightning, the only Mach 2 jet designed and built by Britain. But to help keep the aircraft in the air for longer, the GB-10 was fitted with a retractable refuelling probe for the 'Probe and Drouge' system. the aircraft was also fitted with a powerful 30 mm auto-cannon. The two newest additions to its armament were two TL-90 Guardian and two LK-78 Interceptor missiles. The GB-10 ended up not seeing to much service in the cold war, but did also see service in the Vietnam war, being the only RCAF aircraft to be used in that war. Out of 600 total GB-10's built, only 10 remain in preservation, 8 of which are in flying condition.

Creator notes:

The GB-10 will exceed 1000 mph above 10,000 feet, which is a bit more realistic in my mind. The long stick at the nose is actually the pitot tube or the sensor for the airspeed indicator. I tried out a new method of using the hollow fuselage part to create part of the canopy.
