Historical Reference
In 1969, an Italian military delegation visited Germany to discuss the purchase of Leopard tanks. However, not all members of the delegation agreed to purchase foreign vehicles. Italian military experts and engineers determined the main requirements for the future tank. The armor plate inclination angle, cast turret and gun mantlet, and a powerful Mitsubishi engine would enable the production of a small, light, maneuverable, yet well-armored vehicle. British and Soviet design plans collected by SIFAR-SID were also taken into account. Development of the project was halted at the drafting and modeling stage.
