The Chengdu J-20A represents a significant evolution of China's premier fifth-generation stealth fighter, the J-20 Mighty Dragon. The defining upgrade of this improved variant is the integration of the indigenously developed WS-15 turbofan engine.

The WS-15 "Emei" engine delivers substantially greater thrust and efficiency compared to the J-20's earlier powerplants.
