BAC TSR-2

From good old Wikipedia;

The British Aircraft Corporation TSR-2 was a cancelled Cold War strike and reconnaissance aircraft developed by the British Aircraft Corporation (BAC) for the Royal Air Force (RAF) in the late 1950s and early 1960s. The TSR-2 was designed to penetrate a well-defended forward battle area at low altitudes and very high speeds, and then attack high-value targets in the rear with nuclear or conventional weapons. Another intended combat role was to provide high-altitude, high-speed stand-off, side-looking radar and photographic imagery and signals intelligence, aerial reconnaissance. Some of the most advanced aviation technology of the period was incorporated in order to make it the highest-performing aircraft in the world in its projected missions. Only one airframe flew and test flights and weight-rise during design indicated that the aircraft would be unable to meet its original stringent design specifications. The design specifications were reduced as the result of flight testing.

The TSR-2 was the victim of ever-rising costs and inter-service squabbling over Britain's future defense needs, which led to the controversial decision to scrap the programme in 1965. With the election of a new government, the TSR-2 was cancelled due to rising costs, in favour of purchasing an adapted version of the General Dynamics F-111, a decision that itself was later rescinded as costs and development times increased. The replacements included the Blackburn Buccaneer and McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II, both of which had previously been considered and rejected early in the TSR-2 procurement process. Eventually, the smaller swing-wing Panavia Tornado was developed and adopted by a European consortium to fulfill broadly similar requirements to the TSR-2.

So, as you now know, the TSR-2 was quite the hot kite. This version is not perfect - it is Simple... Therefore what you get is an approximation, which flies fast and has two big bombs in the bomb bay. For fun. Trust me, you are not going to hit anything with them...

Controls are thus;

AG1 - vtol down - deploy flaps
AG2 - deploy landing drogue parachute
AG3 - vtol down - open bomb bay
AG4 - not used - the defense secretary has taped over the recess for this one...
AG5 - lights
AG6 - drop bomb 1
AG7 - Drop bomb 2

Now - the procedures;

Take off - leave trim neutral, drop 1/2 flap, full throttle - she will roll nicely and take off herself. Once 300 mph is reached, raise flaps (VTOL neutral) and trim nose down until level flight is achieved.

Landing - throttle to idle (5% or so) drop full flaps, set trim to achieve desired sink rate. Lower landing gear and try to land level.

Bombing - Very simple - open the bay doors (AG3 - vtol down) line up on your target and use AG6 6 AG7 to drop the bombs - one after the other - simultaneous weapon separation will result in early ignition of the ordinance. This would be bad.

Enjoy while you can.

    Nope, but the minutes of meeting for the committee session where the decision was taken on whether to use black or red electricians tape is a riveting read. @Tang0five
