Cessna O-2A Super Skymaster

20.5k LieutenantSOT  2.9 years ago

In 1966, the USAF wanted to replace the O-1 Bird Dog to create a new FAC (Forward Air Control) aircraft.
Cessna had recently released the 336 Skymaster (and later in the 70s the 337 Skymaster, which featured a pressurized cabin). The USAF wanted Cessna to turn their 336 body into a new aircraft, removing the rear 4 seats to place a computer/radio as well as adding 4 weapons pylons to the under wing, and adding more glass to the doors and inside of the plane.
Capable of traveling 1000 nautical miles at 166 miles per hour, with a top speed of 200 miles per hour, this aircraft is really neat. Especially with its centralized thrust and high wing. My flight instructor put down my dream of having a 337 because of it's really bad maintenance costs...
This aircraft performed a vast amount of roles, from FAC to Psychological Warfare as well as being an Attacker as a "CAS" by dropping rockets and bomblets, or gunning down enemies with miniguns.

This aircraft is my first to have a real Trim flap! And it also is very realistic, as it can fly on one prop, and it controls pretty realistic PapaKernels helped me with physics and got the sexy screenshot above. Muchas gracias, mi amigo.

Weapons:

  • 2 250 pound bombs
  • 2 SUU-11/A 7.62x39mm Miniguns
  • NOTE: this plane also carried missile pods, bomblet droppers (SUU-14/A), and cluster bombs

Controls:

  • AG1= Nav Lights
  • AG2= Drop Machine Gun Pods
  • AG3= Activate Nose Steering
  • AG7= Open Doors
  • Trim= Trim
  • VTOL down= Flaps
  • Regular Flight Controls

NOTES:

  • This aircraft is TECHNICALLY my 50 follower special. But that's just a tag, so who cares lmao
  • To take-off, Put Trim all the way down, and VTOL to the first notch down and push the throttle to 100. If it doesn't take off on it's own, pull up.
The real aircraft takes off quickly, but the O-2 variant of the Skymaster series is a lot heavier with the weapons and computer and radio. It should take off at 110 mph, and it has a stall speed of 80 mph when fully loaded.
  • To land, deploy trim all the way down, and flaps all the way down (as well has having the gear down), and hover over the runway. Once you get to 90 mph, pull up and let the plane smoothly touch the tarmac. Then, let go and let it decelerate on it's own. DO NOT USE BRAKES. Once you get to 60 mph, use brakes and activate AG3 to steer.
The plane can also take off on one propeller, making it the most realistic Skymaster on the site. And, it has an interior (yes, I know prop speed goes in between throttle and mixture, I ran out of room and pushed it up. Deal with it.)

Anyways, that was long. Sorry lol. I hope y'all enjoy!

@Brayden1981 hmm. yeahhh, it's pretty hard to do lol. it has not worked for me for a bit now. but basically, when you go to hit take screenshot for the third screenshot, like actually TAKING the screenshot, not just getting the camera open, you want to immediately press the button that puts you back into the camera as the previous screenshot was taken
    .
If there is even a split second of hesitation, it shuts off. If I had a way to upload videos, I'd show you how

@Brayden1981 When you are taking your third screenshot there is a window where you can press take another for like 0.5 seconds, if you moved fast enough you could in theory have 20 screenshots
