The ASW-021 "Strafer" is a light combat mech designed for high-speed operations like flanking and hit-and-run tactics.

DESIGN

The ASW-021 has a long head-structure with a two-man cockpit in the front, and a nuclear powerplant behind this. A key feature of the unit is the wing-like hardpoint design. On the front, a structural bar with a protected autocannon can be found.

All of this is mounted on a torso and legs with an electric engine.

The large vents hold a space for a Multiple Vector System. This is only used in the Special variant and allows the unit to jump, hover, and even fly in certain planetary conditions.

ARMAMENT

30mm Autocannon

The ASW-021 has two side hardpoints in the Normal configuration, and an additional top hardpoint in the Heavy configuration. Side hardpoints can elevate and depress by 60 degrees.

The weapon used in this loadout is a Variable-Output Laser. At Normal Combat settings, the laser beams for six seconds before cooling for one second.

An unconventional practice of the ASW-021 is the installation of a 30mm autocannon under the cockpit. This gun, nicknamed "Cigar" due to its placement, is used for light, close-range ground targets and enemy personnel.

The unit includes 10 smoke grenades which are specialised for machines as large as this one. Containing over 4 times as much explosive mass and smoke chemical as a standard 40mm smoke grenade, it is able to conceal a much larger area, with smoke reportedly reaching 30m high.

PRODUCTION

There are an estimated 400 ASW-021 units built, across all variants. The base unit costs about $50 million.

The chassis exceeds the legal maximum size for privately-owned walking systems and thus can only be purchased by militaries.
