Chieftain Overview

The development of the Chieftain began with the goal of integrating both the Centurion, which was also the main tank, and its support heavy tank, the Concolor.

As the Cold War intensified, the development of anti-tank missiles and portable anti-tank weapons for infantry meant that many tanks in Western countries were being developed based on the design philosophy that it was better to avoid attacks by increasing mobility than by strengthening armored defense.

In the midst of such a trend, the British Army was skeptical of the idea of strengthening mobility at the expense of armor defense due to the failure of the former cruise tank, so the Chieftain was given a considerable amount of heavy armor from the perspective of crew protection. The main gun was required to be the Concolor 120mm tank gun, but it was too huge to mount, so the new L11 120mm tank gun was mounted. This gun had a separate warhead and ammunition system, which was designed to reduce the burden on the loader, but as a result, the firing rate of the shells was normally reduced to 6 rounds per minute.

The suspension was of the Horstmann type, the same as that of the Centurion, and the emphasis was on ease of maintenance and practicality. The engine was an L60 opposed-piston, six-cylinder, multi-fuel, liquid-cooled diesel engine, but this engine had a complicated structure and was unreliable, so it was replaced with a general diesel engine in later improvements.

Production of the Chieftain began in earnest in 1963 and continued with improvements until the early 1970s. Improvements were made to the armor and fire control systems, and the Chieftain continued to be used at the forefront of NATO forces until its successor, the Challenger 1, was introduced. But this is not Chieftain

This is something similar to the Chieftain. This is because it is less sculpted than the real Chieftain, can go 50km/h (60km/h at 100% Throttle + Pitch), and even has hydraulic suspension. In other words, this tank is a mysterious object based on the Chieftain, with my own rambling added.
