Gyroscopic Sphere

Mod BaconAircraft  7.5 years ago

I present to you; A SPHERE! However, this is no ordinary sphere, this 'special' sphere has a built-in gyroscope to stabilize it's flight, making this one of the easiest to fly VTOL creations on this site!

CONTROLS:
Throttle: Engage gyroscope
VTOL: Accent/decent rate. (VTOL engine)

Insert/edit from 4 years later me.
Dumbass learned conservation of angular momentum by playing with SP rotators....

CONCEPT:
While editing my E-Fan, i realized something... The 2 high speed rotators controlling the electric props made the aircraft incredibly stable on the Z axis. I wondered "why?" and dug deeper...

It seemed that adding rotators (contra-rotating) at a high movement speed on a single axi with an object (with mass) attached to it in a symmetric manor somehow stabilizes that axis

Therefore, theoretically adding 2 rotators contra-rotating on all 3 axis (XYZ) allows an aircraft to behave super stable under the game's physics. This allows something stupid (like this sphere) to fly super steady and also not needing stabilizers.

Indeed. Back then, gyroscopes like these were one of a kind. @plane918273645

Yeh you could now build this with like less than 10 parts

In want to put this in a 3D plane and use it like an as3x system (if you know what as3x is)@BaconAircraft

Hey, Bacon. Not sure if you were aware of this, but Bearded no longer uses his. tag. He uses a Gmail now(beardedplanes@gmail.com) to get user creations. AAAAAAANyway, I love it! Nice build!

I may use this system in order to create stabilized guns.
