PocketBoats: USS Arizona

974 DoggyDev  2.4 years ago

The second ship of my PocketBoats has arrived. These are 1/10 scale historical replicas of warships.
They will be slow to come out since they take a while to make. (I started this right after I posted North Carolina and it’s finally done just in time.) I may leave out small details that I don’t think ruin the ship if they are missing just for my sanity and to build them a bit faster.

General History

This is the USS Arizona. She was the last of the Pennsylvania-class supper dreadnoughts to be built. She was laid down March 16th, 1914 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The Arizona was launched June 19th, 1915 and later commissioned on October 17th 1916. She never saw combat in her career and only served as a gunnery training ship, until December 7th, 1941 during the attack on Pearl Harbor when she was sunk and deemed a total loss. As of uploading this it is the 80th anniversary of this attack. President Roosevelt delivered his famous “Day of Infamy” speech a day after the attack . Here is what is most likely the most iconic part of the speech. “ Yesterday, December 7th, 1941—a date which will live in infamy—the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.
The United States was at peace with that nation and, at the solicitation of Japan, was still in conversation with its government and its emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Pacific.” This is the same configuration the Arizona would’ve been in during the attack.

@DoggyDev The Ocean Liner, could you build the Hikawa Maru and Yasukuni Maru after that? Ik I've asked for basically 4 ships but Asama, Hikawa, and Yasukuni are so dear to me.

    I found two ships
An ocean liner and an armored cruiser. Which one is the right one? I do like the look of the cruiser so I may build it as well if it isn’t the one.

@DoggyDev Will you do the IJN Asama Maru? I love the ol' gal, and no one has built her before.

Yes but unintentionally because I was using her as a test for a system I could use for ship to ship combat and be able to simulate magazine explosions. I forgot the bombs where still there.
