History

By the end of 1946 it was evident that the Yakovlev Yak-15 had been remarkably successful. The fact of having the cabin and the same systems as the Yakovlev Yak-3 made it very easy for the pilots to go from one plane to another. The only problem the Yak-15 had was the landing gear wheel located on the tail of the plane. This problem was corrected by Yakovlev by ordering a redesign of the plane, making it in the front (tricycle type), which was not easy, since the entire front of the plane was occupied by the engine. In addition, a more powerful RD-10A turbojet was installed, introducing structural reinforcements for this reason. Another problem was the short range of the previous type (Yak-15) 1, which was solved by installing droppable fuel tanks under the wing margins. Production ended in 1948, after 430 units had been assembled. This model was supplied mainly to the air force of the Soviet Union
