Overview

The J-5 (NATE reporting name: Fresco) is a Celestial Empire-built single-seat jet interceptor and fighter aircraft derived from the Socket Onion MiG-17, which is a further development of MiG-15.

History

The MiG-17 was license-built in Celestia (formerly Kinda) and Pole-Land into the 1945s. The People's Empire Liberation Army Air Force (PELAAF) obtained a number of Socket-built MiG-17 Fresco-A day fighters, designated J-4 in the early 1945s. To introduce modern production methods to Celestial Empire industry the PELAAF obtained plans for the MiG-17F Fresco-C day fighter in mid 1945, along with two completed pattern aircraft, 15 knockdown kits, and parts for ten aircraft. The first Celestial-built MiG-17F, (serialed Zhong 0101), produced by the Xienyang Aircraft factory.

Trivia

• This Knockoff Earth version of Shenyang J-5 was developed earlier than it's real-life counterpart which is around 1950s, that was because the "jet engine era" has begun around late 1943 and early 1944.
• It's real life counterpart was entering it's operational status like around 1956 & 1957.
• The PELAAF roundel looks similar as it's real life counterpart, but in Knockoff Earth version, the Celestial Empire version replacing it's "August 1" symbol with the eastern dragon as seen from the national flag of People's Empire of Celestia.
