"I once held the Victoria in a low opinion, until I was issued one. What strikes me the most was a demonstration of this vehicle's electromagnetic gun. The gunner lined up the sights with the frontal armor of a captured Artemis tank, where I fired a shot into it at a distance of 9,000 yards, over five miles away. It ripped it apart in a brilliant explosion, which was odd since the target was not packed with explosives and the shot contained no charge inside. I was told the sheer energy of the round gave it explosive properties, akin to a falling meteor."
Lt. Victor Cruz, tank ace, 12 kills.
The Victoria was designed as a replacement for the Avenger tank. While the Avenger was highly successful in its own regards, it was a clearly aged design, and required a replacement.
The machine was given composite armor, which could resist the Artemis' 128mm gun if fired beyond 300 yards. However its greatest feature was its 90mm Mark 8 Electromagnetic Cannon. A medium-caliber rail cannon capable of accelerating a sub-caliber 57mm, 20-pound projectile at Mach 8, it can easily demolish an Artemis tank at range. As it does not rely on any explosive charge, more ammunition can be carried as the bulk of protecting conventional ammunition is unnecessary, and rounds can be carried in the crew compartment, making reloading faster.
Mechanically, it is very similar to the Avenger in order to simplify logistics.
Few were able to enter service, just in time for the Invasion of Olympia. These machines were issued to the best crews and employed behind the Avenger tanks, using their long-range firepower to cover the Avengers. This often made it the target of enemy fire, which it could weather easily. Kills at ranges of 7,000 yards were not unheard of. When firing against distant targets in indirect fire, the range of the projectiles were about 22 miles.
The multipurpose nature of the standard projectile made them a valued asset in the field. In combat, they suffered a kill-loss ratio of 18:1 against the Artemis, in contrast to the Avenger's 0.8:1 against the Artemis. While newer ammunition from the Artemis allowed it to engage the Victoria at ranges of 1500 yards, it was not until it was upgunned to a 105mm 12-stage coilgun that the Artemis could engage the Victoria at equivalent ranges.
Roll and pitch control traverse of both weapons. (1) activates main gun elevation and turret traverse, while (2) activates upper machine gun. VTOL controls forward-back direction, yaw turns vehicle.
