VMF-221 was created in July 1941 in San Diego, California. They were sent to the Battle of Midway under control Ira L. Kimes. They were Originally sent as a relief force, they were quickly sent to fight in the battle, they also had their other squardons, VMF-222, and VMSB-241, VMF-221 consisted of 21 F2A-3 (Brewster Bullafo)’s, and 7 Grumman F4F-3 Wildcats. On June 4th, 1942, during the Battle of Midway, they were sent out to escort a group of dive bombers. As they flew along, they were stopped by some Japanese Zero’s, 13 of VMF-221’s squardon were sent out to intercept them, after the battle(a huge failure), there were only 2 servicable aircraft left. After thaat the 2 pilots became aces. After that, they were sent to Ewa, where they intercept Japanese shipping, they did very well with that, as there was few Japanese resistance. In December, 1943, they were sent back to the states for reorganization. Their last battle was in January 24, 1945 to June 6, 1945 aboard the USS Bunker Hill. This is not the full power and look of VMF-221, but it it is close with colors, formations, and size, couldnt figure out how to use fuelselages for wings, this is for the Midway Challenge!
