Background

The Roberts R-8 was a twin engine, tri seater light cargo aircraft, built from 1948 to 1951.

The R-8 "Whistling Laurel" was converted into a seaplane in late '49 and had a nose gunner position installed in '50. It operated with German PMC "Brockan Kriegsstopper" in South America, employed by privates for coastal surveillance and security duties.

The Whistling Laurel served for 5 years , from '49 to '54 , after Brockan PMC stopped operating overseas, and was displayed in Munich Air Museum , where it still is today.

The armament of this R-8 was a single modified RPK mounted in the nose gunner position, and an Ak47 for the Radio Operator.

Looks like the plane equivalent of those highschool "alpha males" who claim to be big stuff but are actually pathetic.

I absolutely love this plane. It just looks fantastic. Has that beautiful 30s-40s look. I also love the rudimental defensive gun. Just letting you know though, the RPK was designed and built in the very early 60s
