Planex 76 Swan

101k Wallaby  6.6 years ago

The Planex 76 Swan began production in 1957 as a passenger transport able to go to more remote regions with lots of water. It was never popular with the airlines as originally intended, because it had no landing gear. Instead, it became popular with buisnessmen who often travelled to areas that had no airport but instead a lot of water. The program ended up being a flop, and production ended in 1961. A few models still fly today, and the distinctive red belly with oversized wings and side beacons can tell you when one is flying over. Today it is mainly used as a fire fighting plane. 385 models were built and only 27 are still flying globally.
