When the warbirds of WW2 began flying over the Alps, the airforces of both sdes found they lacked the equipment to deal with the harsh elements. High altitudes, terrible weather, and a landscape that is a pilot’s worst nightmare, the Alps were unforgiving. When the tides began to turn against the Alpine fighter group, they were in dire need of any aircraft they could get their hands on. (We not gonna talk about the cropduster with .50 cals....) This particular aircraft, once flown by the German Ace Hanz Nein, was shot down by anti air artillery somewhere over the Alps. With the pilot dead from shrapnel, the AFG decide to patch the plane up. (The pilot was buried with full military honors.) Formerly known from that moment on as the A-37 Heron, she was used primarily as a short range interceptor and attack aircraft defending the airfields. With a few minor modifications to allow her to be STOL capable with the help of a smol ramp, and some folding wings (AG.1 and VTOL) to preserve precious space in the mountains, she became a true Alpine fighter! Plane stalls at 300km/h or so. Too maneuverable, and while the gears are pretty solid, it's still unflyable
