Tsubasaneko NT6-35 Flying Sabre

The Tsubasaneko NT6-35 "Flying Sabre" is a long-range carrier-capable fighter aircraft manufactured by Tsubasaneko Industries, a former part of the Nekoshima Air Force Industrial Branch (NAFIB) from 1935 to 1944. The NT6-35 was designated as the Nekoshima type 6 carrier fighter (?????????, Nekoshima Roku-shiki Kanjo Sentoki), or the Tsubasaneko NT6-35 "Flying Sabre" known in the Nekoshima Navy Air Corps. as "Rokusen" (??, sixth fighter) after its type designation, but it was more commonly referred to as "Seiba" or "Sabre".

The Sabre is considered to have been an extremely capable carrier-based fighter in the world when it was introduced early in the Nekoshiman Patriotic War, combining unusual light weight, excellent maneuverability, high airspeed and very long range. The Nekoshima Navy Air Corps. also frequently used it more as a land-based fighter due to Nekoshima only having a single aircraft carrier.

In early combat operations, the Sabre gained a reputation as a dogfighter after achieving high amounts of kills against hostile aircraft due to their outstanding agility, but by mid-1943 a combination of new tactics and the introduction of better equipment, aircraft, and capture and reverse-engineering of Sabres enabled Allied pilots to engage the Sabre on generally equal terms. By the early months of 1944, the decline in pilot quantity in the Nekoshima Army Air Force contributed to making the Sabre less effective against larger numbers of newer, more heavily armed Allied fighters. The Sabre lacked hydraulic boosting for its ailerons and rudder, rendering it difficult to maneuver at high speeds and suffering rudder flutter past 450 km/h. Lack of self-sealing fuel tanks also made it more vulnerable and explosive than its contemporaries due to the high amounts of fuel loaded in it.

The NT6-35 Flying Sabre remained as the frontline fighter of the Nekoshima Army Air Force from 1935 until 1945 —due to the lack of aircraft designs— with the Second Republic of Nekoshima's surrender to the Lochiwan Army.

Gameplay

AI friendly variant for dogfighting!

Activation Groups and their purpose:
1. Open the canopy.
2. Turn engine on.
3. Activate Combat/Landing Flaps.
4. Activate Rudder for yaw! Note: it kinda acts as a...gyro?
5. Activate Ailerons for rolls.
6. Gyroscope for afk/long flights (just for gameplay relaxation tbh lol)
7. Activate Elevators to allow pitch controls.
8. Activate G/AoA-limiter (Realism mode)

Notes:

  1. Wing flutter may be experienced beyond 500 km/h but it is part of the aircraft! She was designed in 1943, and was completely stripped of unnecessary parts to achieve the intricate light weight and low wing loading.
  2. Rudder and wing flutter might cause issues where you roll without input. I don't know how to fix it, but I will try to make up for it with future creations, apologies.
  3. Guns are rotated to converge at 0.2 km/200 metres.
  4. Parts of the NT6-35 have weaker health than some in relation to weight. It was for realism and lighter weight. Be evasive, ninja!
  5. Despite the cockpit interior, she is not VR-Compatible (unfortunately) and I apologise for the missed opportunity.
  6. Recommended throttle is 80% (I think).
  7. I actually translated to Kanji but SP site isn't compatible with non latin text I'm so disappointed about it ToT

Me address:

  • Guten abend allerseits! It has been nigh six months since my last post. It wasn't only due to laziness, but rest, exploration, socializing, focusing on school stuff (been great), and phone issues. I dropped my phone off a public transport last year December and it shattered but was still functional, just the LCD and screen protector, but thankfully the lady that picked it up was kind enough to call my aunt with my SIM card and she gave it back to my sister, hence, me! I would've loved to give that kind lady a hug. Oh right, I also turned 18 this year so- this is my first post as a young adult! Hallelujah I guess!? If you waited for me the whole hiatus, I want to thank you so much! It would probably take a little longer than my previous publishing rate due to a possible increase in obsession with details (and possibly realism). But I hope you are all patient and doing- darn well!

Now one of my best aircraft with 49 upvotes! Thank you to everyone who up voted, downloaded, spotlit, and even if you just lurked or watched. Thank you!

Now I am pondering on whether I should optimiser her, VR-compatibility comes alongside it of course. Does anyone want that?

@ThomasRoderick Lochiwans (they might post soon I hope) are predominantly human and Lupari (dog version of Felinors, four ears again yes but they are significantly taller and perhaps larger than average humans—especially—felinors) Lochiwa is absolutely massive but was separated by a massive ocean. The was between the two began in Feb 17, 1938 with the Lochiwans attack on Purrl Harbour (I'm not ashamed of that name lmao) and then was attacked again in Dec 8 1940, which is when Nekoshima began fortifying.
    .
Nekoshima had the advantage of being defensive and not having to dump their money on carriers because their archipelagos are significantly safer and more familiar compared to the open ocean, and Lochiwa only began their invasion mid-early 1940s, with their first attempt in 1943.
    .
I can also relate with writing things and making them logical and grounded, so I end up forgetting the universe they are set in is fantasy, with magic and stuff so I just facepalm when I go the lengths of researching for realistic stuff and then realise I can do whatever cos there's magic.

Eh, as far as non-furry beastfolk go I'd personally prefer those with both animal and human ears.
    .
A small nation with a tiny carrier (that pushes 25kn tops) fending off an enemy for four years? Either they got copious amount of foreign aid or Lochiwa isn't that much larger than Nekoshima.
... and just which species is Lochiwa again? Using real-life biology as reference, both rodents and avians would have some serious amount of grudge against cats while both canids (esp. those of the canis genus) and avians (large birds of prey) are known to prey on cats, so...
    .
    ..
... yes, I'm even worse of a nerd and also a worldbuilder, too bad I'm too stuck in making *everything* in my worldbuilding as logical and consistent as possible so...

@ThomasRoderick Tbh the human ears are —again,— an accident when I made the species so I just doubled down on it and said: "Ah screw it, they have four ears now" and kept it lol

They are indeed based off the Imperial Japanese but less so with imperialist tendencies as Nekoshima is a Republic under attack by Lochiwa, not the other way around (Nekoshima is also tiny btw,) so their war isn't really 'Second Great War', it was moreso 'Nekoshiman War of Survival' because the Lochiw(i)an attack was premeditated and racially (more a grudge) driven.

The sole Nekoshiman carrier in the description was asked off the Hoshō-class carrier because it was more fitting for their economy and stuff.

IIRC in most works involving cat-humanoids the presence - or lack thereof - of their human ears are rather Schrödinger-y, aka hidden behind their hair and tend to remain a mystery untill someone/something proves either to be true.
The joke about Nagoya dialect came from its tendency to use "-ya" sounds so Nagoya folks are often jokingly said to "speak like cats".
    .
    ..
    ...
.... Tom's Overthinking Time™: the Felis as a genus are great ambush predators but rather poor pursuit predators, so Boom-and-Zoom designs may play better into their strengths than dedicated turn fighters.... granted, given the cats in question are based off *Imperial Japan* them winning might not be great for everyone else involved....

@ThomasRoderick They are the typical cathumans seen in anime but they have four ears, cat and human. Also, Nagoya accent sounds rather adorable, TIL there is a Nagoya dialect lol

The Hayabusa canopy and specs was a coincidence though, similar to the intake. I thought the Zero's intake was part of the cowling and I didn't even see that one, she was based fully on the Zero but lighter and possibly more fragile and explosive, but she does end up sharing more stuff than I thought with the Ki-43 Hayabusa!

I guess coincidences, no matter how many, can be more than surprising!

    Oh, oops, duly noted.
.... BTW, are they actually feline humanoids (colloquially "catboys/catgirls") or are they humans with Nagoya accent and weird hats?

Also... Hayabusa specs and canopy with an A6M oil cooler intake?
