Mechanical Pearse

16.4k ThePrototype  5.5 years ago

So this is the plane from my teaser, its based off of Richard Pearse's monoplane of "1903". The craft itself is quite small for a plane length wise. This build was quite refreshing in the long run and im quite happy with it. On to the actual plane, During the early 20th a New Zealander was determined to fly. Pearse himself was mostly self taught. The engine he used for his plane produced 15 to 25 HP and weighed only 110 lbs. He had recorded that he did make some short hops, but pearse himself never said he flew, in fact no one did. My machine was meant to replicate the possible but unknown handing qaulities of the plane, the plane is somewhat slow to respond to rolling or yaw. Although pitch can be quite sensitive, so when you reach 70 MPH pitch up slowly and correct you course if needed, also if you start skidding counteract with rudder and ailerions, have fun flying - ThePrototype

ALSO: it's impossible to land for some reason, I'm sorry about that....

ALSO THE MACHINE IS CHALLENGING TO FLY, SO BE WARNED
NOTE: MORE TO BE ADDED LATER

    Some trying times, huh.
But I have faith in your ability to make these fly.

Thanks man, he had the power to Weight ratio to do it, there are supposedly multiple witnesses, they also said a few second after takeoff he crash into some grass hedges about 12 ft tall @CDRxavier

You don't expect a proto-plane to land nicely.
Looks awesome, although I was quite skeptical about how he "did a short hop" if this was the actual performance (simple planes physics)
    Looks fantastic.

@ThePrototype @ThePrototype just by an accident, I was flying and slightly stalled on the ground, then left the stall and gently landed

Thanks man, before this is was even harder to fly..... you had to learn how to handle every little mistake, and if did make a mistake there was a chance you couldn't correct it. The plane originally was very unforgiving @ThePilotDude

Wow this is great! You’re right it is pretty tricky to fly haha. At least for me it is. And maybe that’s historically accurate anyway. But the construction itself is fantastic! I don’t know how the heck you build all those mechanical linkages it is so cool!
