Intro

In 1935, the Bell Aircraft corporation was founded by Lawrence Dale Bell with the intention of creating unique and new aircraft for the United States Army Air Corp (USAAC, later the USAAF, and then the USAF in 1947).
Having not accomplished gaining any investments from the United States Amry, Bell opened a competition within the country to devise a plan for a "bomber hunter" known now as a heavy fighter, or interceptor. In 1937, the Bell Model 1 was drawn up, and it was funded by the interest of the Army.

After two prototypes were constructed, it was fairly obvious this aircraft had its flaws. They changed its identification to the YFM-1, meaning Serviceplace Fighter Multirole Model-1 (YFM-1), and it gained the name Airacuda. The Army engineers referred to this aircraft as a bomber in it of itself, due to its size resembling the B-18 Bolo bomber in service at the time. The most produced variant was the XFM-1, which had side blisters and wing bomb bays, making it truly multirole. It is also the most well known variant with external intakes and superchargers, however, the one present is the one that I did because it was simpler- the model B. The Model A had tricycle landing gear, but was worse than the original.

The problems this aircraft had were numerous, it was practically uncontrollable, and very slow, and the 37mm cannons intended for anti-bomber work were underwhelming, causing the termination in 1940.

Intro to my Build

Hey y'all! So it has been a while, but I wanted to make something with some detail for my return. I suck at interiors, and I went to accept that for this build, so I am sorry, but the insides are awful, but I'd rather there be something than nothing at all lol

The machine guns above the 37mm cannons were used as tracers to guide where the cannons would hit, and so I added them on this, as well as rear-facing machine guns for anti-aircraft work. I made this aircraft very maneuverable, because if I made it fly realistically to the real one, it would just honestly piss you off because you would have to switch power off and pitch, then set trim and power again, only to do it all over again every few seconds. I used 5 different models and blueprints to look over certain parts as the information was limited, the earlier models (X and A) both had landing gear that went straight up and stuck out, but the B has landing gear that rotate and go up, like the P-40

Anyways, I hope you all have fun with it!!

Controls

  • Normal Flight Controls
  • Red lever is for trim, black is throttle
  • No AGs

Side Notes:

  • Yes, I know that I forgot the landing gear lever inside
  • I also know that the yoke is a wheel, not a stick, but with the current game stuffs, I don't feel like spending any longer on this build lol
  • Huge thanks to PapaKernels for helping out on this build
  • And finally - my next build is going to be the XB-42 Mixmaster, and I hope to add more details to it as it is for the Never Built Challenge. Catch y'all later!!

@CaptFoxworth19 uhhh, I really just look up the plane model's blueprints, to to images, and then click on them. Once I click on one that doesn't have any grainyness, and is high resolution, I download it. I guess I just got lucky this time 😂
