BAC TSR-2c Desert Storm

Here is a fictional "c" variant of the ill fated TSR-2...

I was thinking "what if the TSR-2 had managed to survive the Whitehall axe?". "What if the TSR-2 had then gone on to be the successful versatile strike tool that BAC knew it could be?". "What if, at the end of it's operational service life, it had to be dragged out, buffed up, modified and otherwise roughly treated in order to be carted off half way around the world to bomb the bejesus out of Saddam?".

Well, this, ladies and gents, is what I think that would look like.

Up-rated engines (in reality a couple of big turbo fans hidden in the fuselage...), RADAR enhancements (the reason for the wider nose and tail fin pod) extra hard points and a simplified a2a refueling system (to allow the use of the yank's KC-135 fleet - one does not want to run dry for avgas 20,000 ft over Baghdad.) make for a slightly more sophisticated bird than the original issue.

Now, the controls are a wee bit different - this upgrade was not designed by a select committee, so all AGs are utilised.

AG1+VTOL down - flaps
AG2 brake chute
AG3 drop internal stores 1
AG4 drop internal stores 2
AG5 lights
AG6 drop ventral external stores
AG7 drop under wing stores
AG8 + VTOL down - open bomb bay doors

NOTE! under the wings you will find a new bomb I have been working on - an air brake retarded bunker buster. Upon release, the brakes automatically deploy (brake position is directly tied to your throttle position - so full open throttle means fully deployed air brake), so be aware that you need to be considerably closer to the target than if you were using free fall bombs. These bombs also contain the equivalent of 4 standard boom 50 bombs. So expect lag if you have a slow device.

The TSR-2 would have been a great bomber! Why did America say it was TOO GOOD, and take the more expensive, more complicated, less sophisticated F-111?

Cheers! One thing about this bomb; deployment at full throttle can cause it to slow too much and not explode on impact. This is especially true of mid altitude deployment. Best to deactivate the launch AG, to deactivate the retarder brake and allow the bomb to get to terminal velocity. @Tang0five

Real nice upgrade, that bomb itself is worth an upvote!

I know. Just think; this was a product of the 1950s. The TSR-2 wuld have profoundly altered the balance of power in the European Theatre of the Cold War. The Soviets had nothing that could touch it. @RAF1
