The F-100 traced its roots to the X-97 JetLancer. Originally, the design was meant to be an upgrade to JetLancer fuselages which were already being produced. The prototype, however, show remarkable speed and agility, and a Project was launched to further study the layout.
Entering service in the 60s as a land based, long range interceptor, the legendary Leopard paved the way for a new era of high speed jets. It was much larger than it’s first prototype, and lost some agility, but made up for the loss with long range fire and forget missiles. While it was exported to the northern countries it was highly secretive, and much of its development was hidden from the public eye. It was well respected by both its pilots and its enemies.
