Designed and built by Patterson-Wright Shipyards, The Caprica class Battleships were the first capital ships built for the Republic of Erandia Navy since the Holden class Armoured cruisers and were the first true battleships to serve in the Erandian navy.

Put into service between March of 1964 to June 1974, The first ship of the class, Tanager, was completed just before the World War.

Design

The design of the Capricas were based on the Ludermian Adama class Battlecruisers. The Tanagers could hit speeds of up to 30 knots and had a range of 29000 KM at 10 knots. The turrets were placed in a ABX Configuration. The 4 Eastern Standard Inc Boilers produced 82000 kW of power.

A battleship, the Caprica class was heavily armed. her armament consisted of:

Addemdum: M-2 Matriach

The M-2 "Matriarch" Missile was the world's first Ship-launched guided missile, and was based off the Air-launched M-1 Patriach Missile,which was itself based off reverse-engineered Ferulian Missiles. The M-2 was designed by the Ludermian Eastern Dynamics weapons design bureau. The M-2 Matriarch was described as "Painfully" Slow. The Matriarch missiles were large and could barely fly, and had a rocket engine to give it a sudden boost of speed, moments from hitting the target. The missile was designed to detonate some distance from the enemy, allowing shrapnel to shred small boats and any crew that were unlucky enough to be on deck when it hit. It could also be used against large formations of aircraft, but could easily be evaded due to its extremely limited maneuverability. The Capricas were the only ship in Erandia that could mount Matriarch missiles.

Service History

RENS Tanager
The first of the 12 ships, RENS Tanager was completed by San Silba Eastern ahead of schedule, and would be commissioned on March 2nd 1964. Assigned to the home fleet, She saw combat in the first battle of the Erandian Gulf, Operation Deadlock, the battle of the bay of Okralosk, and sustained significant damage from 3 torpedo hits in Operation Heretic, which saw her bombard shore positions supporting landings and Beach 12. She spent the rest of the war in drydock, and was the first official ship in the Navy of the Erandian Federation, with her crew mutining and bombarding Fortress Vestige.

She is now a museum ship, and the ceremonial flagship of the Erandian Expeditionary fleet, berthed at San Mernego.

RENS Caprica
Commissioned on 3nd March 1964, RENS Caprica was unlucky from the very Start. She was heavily damaged by a large explosion (suspected to be caused by ammonium nitrate blowing up) as she was fitting out, delaying her completion by 6 months. She nearly rammed the cruiser RENS Achilles while leaving drydock, and accidentally fired on friendly ships during operation deadlock. She rammed and sunk the destroyer RENS Versia on her way back, and was attacked by 20 Ferulian bombers on the way. She sustained 6 hits, but by some miracle was able to limp back to port. She was attacked daily by Divoroan bombers while in drydock, Getting hit 18 times, and would not be repaired until the war was over. She would be hit by 2 Torpedoes and 6 Bombs when serving with the ROE during the Erandian Civil war, and was finally destroyed when a lucky bomb hit her magazine while she was refueling at Barnsby Island. Today, she lies at the bottom of the ocean, in shallow water. Her mast can be seen poking out of the sea during low tide.

RENS Picon
RENS Picon was commissioned on the 18th December 1965, and had a short career. On her way to participate in Operation Deadlock, she was torpedoed twice by the Ferulian submarine Clamshell, and sunk in 18 minutes, but not before ramming the submarine, sinking clamshell. The kill was the only one claimed by Picon, and remains the only submarine kill by a battleship by ramming. Her wreck has not been found since.

RENS Libran
Commissioned on the 31st October 1966,RENS Libram was assigned as flagship to the Dermoth flotilla. She was attacked by Divoroan bombers upon her arrival at Dermoth, and nearly got hit. She was then deployed to the defence of Havenia, assisting Havenian forces. On the 18th March 1969, She and RENS Aquaria were deployed to raid the merchant convoys supplying Chanaria. Designated Raiding Force 12, RF12 Surprised convoy PQ82 and sunk 14 Merchant ships, before sinking 3 more Divoroan cruisers that came to assist PQ82. She was decommissioned in June 1982 and Scrapped the following year.

RENS Canceron
Commissioned on February the 6th 1968, RENS Canceron was assigned as flagship of the home fleet. She sunk 2 cruisers trying to breach the Tondo line, and otherwise had a relatively Uneventful career. She was retired on June 8th 1984.

RENS Aquaria
The ship with the most storied history, RENS Aquaria was commissioned on February the 17th 1968, a day after the war started. She would escort Carrier group 4 to attack Okralosk, and would return to Santa Silba with a kill count of 3 ships. Aquaria participated in Operation Deadlock, Operation Damocles, Operation Crucible, and Operation Heretic. She joined RENS Libran to create RF12, and get hit once by Divoroan cruiser Heracles.
Following repairs, she escorted RENS Wendy lauber to Dermoth, then returned. The was the only Erandian Ship to participate in the shelling of Dermoth. Her impressive kill count gave her the nickname "Lucky A", and she ended the war with a kill count of 8 Merchant ships, 6 destroyers, 7 Light cruisers, 4 Heavy cruisers, 1 escort carrier, 2 Submarines, 16 fighters and 72 Bombers. She remains the most decorated ship in Erandian history, and is currently a museum ship in San Silba.

RENS Tauron

RENS Tauron was assigned to the Rekbardik defense flotilla. Her career was uneventful and she was decommissioned in late 1988

RENS Gemenon
The first ship in the Erandian navy to be armed with the M-1B Matriarch Missile, the Gemenon was the flagship of the Erandian Oriental fleet. She sunk 2 destroyers and 1 Cruiser during the war. Later in her life, she had her main guns removed, to add more missiles. She was decommissioned in late 1973.

RENS Pegasus
Built as a Replacement for RENS Picon, RENS Pegasus was was assigned to the Erandian Expeditionary Fleet. Originally made to join RF12, She was hit by a Ferulian guided missile, and had to limp home for repair. She spent the rest of the war in drydock,and was bombed and destroyed at the outset of the Erandian Civil war.

RENS Sagittaron

Converted to a Aviation Carrier while half-complete, RENS Sagittaron had her rear guns removed to make way for her flight deck. She had a total capacity of 14 aircraft. She escorted supply convoys for the duration of the war, with her guns sinking 2 destroyers and her aircraft destroying 3 Submarines and 23 Aircraft.

RENS Scorpia
Commissioned on 2nd March 1974, RENS Scorpia spent her operational life in Ludermia. She returned to Erandia after the war, and was seized by the CPRE during the April 1st incident. She was then made the flagship of the CPRE, and was sunk by carrier aircraft during the battle of Krakabloa sea.

RENS Virgon
RENS Virgon was commissioned on the 3rd April 1972, and had an uneventful career. She was badly damaged by a friendly fire incident, where the Ludermian Heavy Cruiser Dracula fired torpedoes at her. She was decommissioned on the 3rd February 1978 and was expended as a target for the Skypark nuclear tests.

RENS Hestia
Completed too late to see any actual action in the war, RENS Hestia was sold to the Cecerian navy. She is currently a museum ship in the Cecerian capital of Branderban.

This was meant to be a 20 minute, 100+ part build, as I was bored and wanted to experiment with WW2 Ships. Here I am, having used 21 hours to build this ship. At 650 parts, the Capricas were my first try with Autoleading guns, and a new way to turn turrets. I hope you enjoyed the Caprica as much as I enjoyed building her.
