RJ-Martin P8M Kingfisher 3.4

228k RamboJutter  3.9 years ago

Intro

Based on the Seadragon fuselage (to save money) the Martin company with the assistance of RamboJutter Ltd. where contracted by the USN to produce a small twin turbo-prop maritime patrol bomber with this design being developed and put into production as the P8M Kingfisher. Designed from the outset to be multi-role, it has external weapons mounts along with a small internal weapons bay.

Controls

LandingGear = retract wing tip floats and turn off landing light
VTOL dn = flaps down (use half flap on takeoff - thanks ED i would normally have used full due to ignorance)
TRIM = elevator trim (use this, power settings have different effects on pitch etc)
BRAKE = airbrake
AG2 = open internal bay doors and arm torpedos
AG6 = nav lights
AG8 = turn off props (jets will continue to respond to throttle)

Notes

Firstly, thanks to Jamesplanes for letting me use his funkystuff commands for the props, i think that adds to this build. Its interesting that to produce a turboprop essentially a jet engine is used with a gearbox and shaft to drive the props, so i decided early on to build this with both the jet and props visible, this lead me to the interesting discovery that it will maintain a slow speed with full jet throttle and props idled, probably unrealistic but the jet exhaust has to help right?

I know that this has a similar fuselage to my Seadragon but i thought it went well with the gull wing and turboprop arrangement, i like to think of this as a sort of naval equivalent of the Bronco, its manoverable, multi-role and fun =)

    @LieutenantSOT I don't unfortunately, you may be able to alter the delay formula for undercarriage doors to work on throttle?

    Do you, by chance, know how to add a delay to input to a jet engine in this game?

    This is super cool!
    .
    Also, I had the same question. Turboprops actually produce power from thrust rotating turbines, and the excess thrust produces power like a jet engine

    @FatEgg lol, looks like you had fun. The alternative colour scheme is the link at the bottom of the text block, the engines spool up to idle when you load in, press 8 if you want to stop them. Enjoy.
