Type 36-3

“You think this tank will be better than a BT-42?”

“What’s a BT-42, Sir?

“You know, the BT-42. It’s a Finnish tank that was used in the Continuation War, back in 1943.

“It’s the 36th year of 1900, Sir. I have never heard of such a vehicle or a war by that name in my studies.”

“Oh yeah, forgot it’s only 36.”

“Lay off the bottle for a while Sir.”

“Yes Ma’am”
- Conversation between a Tank Commander and a crew member during the production of their Type 36. Late Spring 1936.

Description

The Type 36 was an ad hoc vehicle used by the Magaling Forces against the Kepa invasion during h the defense of Ryuju Island. They were moderately successful with their primary role of acting as a medium tank, but they were also able to provide infantry support against machine gun nests, light fortifications, and entrenched positions. Three were produced in the early stages of the battle and were gradually improved throughout their service life.

The Type 1936’s were created in response to the excess of cannon the defenders had stocked, as well as an improvement over the medium tanks already on the island. Based on the pre-production models that would later become the Type 25-27 Cavalry tanks, the Type 36 used the hulls and chassis of the Type 27 but used a new turret that would mount more powerful cannon than even that of the Box Tractors. Armor plate of iron and steel was welded to the tanks front, but this added an extra amount of weight to the vehicle combined with the new larger turret and equipment. To combat this issue Athena suspension was modified and the speed limiter was removed, this helped to improve the speed, but turning the vehicle was still challenging especially when moving at top speed. The Type 36 weighed nearly twice as much as the Type 27 Cavalry tank, and mechanical issues would not be uncommon until crews modified their tanks to rectify the problems.

The three Type 38’s were produced by the workers of the “Hana” factory on Ryuju belonging AL-I Ko

This Vehicle

Built in 1936 and used until the evacuation of the town south of Yun Yam Fortress in the Autumn of 1938, this Type 36 served in the reconstituted 26th Cavalry Company under the Independent Ryuju Cavalry Regiment, along with the two other Type 36’s.

During the vehicle‘s production, the Commander of the tank asked the workers to mount racks for a device he was tinkering with. The device would later culminate into the Smoke Discharge MK 1. He heavily modified an old combat rifle and attached a can of pop to the end of the barrel allowing a indigenous form of firework to be placed into the mount. Upon firing the firework would be ejected out of the barrel and be ignited by the rifle round, thus creating a rudimentary smoke emitter. He did this to create a device that would “make the enemy not see the tank’s massive of a turret.”

The commander also mounted a radio receiver in the turret, although this was of a civilian quality and did not meet military standards. Furthermore, the primary source of transmitting information on all Magaling Army vehicles of the time were signal flags. Radios were only standardized and mounted on all tanks in 1940. When asked why he put a radio in there, the commander responded, “well I can’t bring a piano in there can I?”

The vehicle served until the Battle of Yun Yam Bridge where a contingent of Magaling vehicles were covering the evacuation of civilians and troops away from the invading Kepa Army. The Type 36 along with a Type 25 Multi-Turreted Heavy Tank, a Type 25 Light Tank Al-I-Ko, and two Type 25 Kabayong Bakal Armored Cars held the advancing enemy troops off long enough to allow the rest of the allied troops to cross. When all civilians and troops had crossed, the group barricaded the road to the bridge with their vehicles and demolished the bridge behind them to ensure the Kepa forces could not chase after the evacuees. While courageous and honorable, their actions led to their last stand which resulted in heavy casualties on both sides and the capture of any surviving crew members.

Ending Notes & Thanks

When you drive, make sure to accelerate and brake slowly. If you brake too fast the rear of the tank will rise into the air and the commander will spill his drink.

I felt that I could do better than a box with a gun, and I was surprised when the Box Tractor the score it did. I would say this tank looks better than a box.
Please if you have a computer, inform me of any issues with the tank as I can no longer run this thing on my phone. Thank you.

This build is my first to use a lot of funky trees for inputs and a stuff. @SnoWFLakE0s helped me a lot with this, and his guide is pretty neat too. The cannon breech is a decent improvement over my last one. I got the code from a question about landing gear from @TheKraken3that was answered by @vcharng. The rifles for the smoke launchers on the side of the turret were originally made by @WarHawk95, and hull has the damage model that @Wernster ‘s builds use. I also read a guide from @Default4, hopefully my screenshots look like they weren’t taken on a potato. There might be more, but I’m not sure.

Kudos to whoever can read the text on the side of the tank.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy the vehicle, and I hope you have a good day!
