Hey everyone. Zerø here from simpleplanes.com. And in this SimplePlanes Post, I present to you: The First Ever Flanker.

Not gonna lie, I'm quite proud with this one.

Thanks to @Gro for providing me with several info, including the cockpit.

Introduction:

The Sukhoi T-10-1 Flanker-A is a twin engined, flat fuselage prototype built by Sukhoi. This is a prototype for the Su-27. It featured the Lyulka AL-21F3 engine, and the first ever Fly-By-Wire system built in the Soviet Union.

History:

During the height of the Cold War, Soviet Intelligence reports the possibility of a new, and more advanced american air superiority fighter than it's previous ones. This, as you might see, can cause a massive disadvantage for the Soviet Union. Thus, the development of a new air superiority fighters was a necessity for the Soviets to gain the upper hands on the Americans. A program was issued in 1969 by the Soviet General Staff. The program had very ambitious requirements. TsAGI and Sukhoi was up for the challenge. However in 1971, Soviets discovered that they needed more than one Air Superiority fighter. They needed a lightweight and a more heavier fighter. Thus, the work was split between Mikoyan (who worked with the lightweight fighter) and Sukhoi (who worked with the more heavier fighter). Sukhoi, knowing that it had a bigger fish to catch than Mikoyan ended up with the T-10-1 design. The T-10 originally had the AL-21F3 afterburning turbojet engine, but is soon to be replaced in the third prototype with the AL-31. The T-10 was marked with considerable problems, which led to a fatal crash of the T-10-2, the second prototype on the 7th of July 1978. From then onwards, Sukhoi began to experiment more with their aircraft design, leading to numerous redesigns.

Controls and Features:

Controls:

VTOL: Flaps
Trim: Well... Trim.
AG1: Open Canopy
AG5: Airbrakes

Features:
  • Actual afterburning turbojet. It isn't loud enough which I'm honestly dissapointed on.
  • Comes with manuals. All the controls and infos about the cockpit can be found there.
  • Custom wings! First ever one I've done. And yes, I built this before the Jeff so the Jeff doesn't count as being the first one.

I'll just let the image do the talking.

One more thing before I go, on the manual, there are also important notes. Please read them.

With that being said, enjoy and fly safe!
