The Atocha was a ship out of a treasure fleet in the early 17th century around 1622. The ship left Spain, then left towards a couple locations, where it picked up value cargos including silver bars and gold coins, along with wealthy passengers. These people brought on board more money, and contriband items, such as emeralds, gold jewlery, and such. Overall, it contained religous items, and things like gold chains and coins, along with that silver. The fleet of 28 left cuba in September after a good luck sign from the moon. The sign was false however, and the fleet encountered a storm and 8 ships were sunk, while 20 escaped. The Atocha was one of those sunk, and it triggered a massive search, which in the end, caused one of the greatest collections of spanish treasures to arise in the Mel Fisher Museum.
