AutoCredit II: Based on BOSKnight's Seaplane Challenge!

The Beriev Be-20 is a Soviet amphibious transport aircraft developed in 1956 by the Beriev Design Bureau. Initially conceived as a multi-role cargo and maritime support platform, it was later adapted to fulfill strategic airlift and naval resupply roles, intended to rival the emerging American Lockheed C-130 Hercules during the height of the Cold War.

With its piston-powered twin-engine design, hull-optimized fuselage, and robust short takeoff and landing (STOL) capability, the Be-20 was capable of operating from both remote airstrips and open water, making it ideal for frontline logistics, island operations, and coastal resupply missions.

Despite its versatility, the aircraft began showing signs of obsolescence in the late 1960s. The rise of jet-powered transports like the Ilyushin Il-76 and shifts in Soviet doctrine led to the retirement of the Be-20 fleet in 1972.
