Version 1.1 Map Plugin

This mod is pretty unoptimized at the moment. If I ever get around to it, update 1.2 will be optimization focused.

Changelog

Update v1.1:

  • Added 150k-200k trees.
  • Added ambient noise zones.
  • Added new scene objects.
    -- 3 new satellite antennas.
    -- Large fuel tanks.
  • Moved the NEXRAD WSR-88 and weather station to the top of the mountain.
  • Changed some textures/texture settings.
  • Revamped certain areas of terrain to be more dynamic.

My first map plugin and completed mod in general. Been wanting to make an airport for a while now but only recently became motivated to actually do it.
All models used were either SimplePlanes stock assets or models that I made in SP and ported to Unity.
Has some rough spots here and there and could definitely be improved, but for now I'm satisfied with it. Future updates (if any) will probably be focused on optimization and feature additions.

Overview

Mikeska Airport, named after the Jundroo developer Nathan Mikeska, is located on a large island approximately 88 nautical miles east of Wright Airport. The airport itself consists of 3 runways, and includes 10 hangars, 2 terminal buildings, ATC, and a large civilian-center building. The airport sits inside of a flat, grassy plain surrounded by shallow hills with a large mountain to the southeast.

Navigation

To Mikeska
  • From Wright: Heading 81°, 88nm.
  • From Yeager: Heading 100°, 76nm.
  • From Snowstone: Heading 125°, 106nm.
  • From Maywar: Heading 56°, 58nm.
From Mikeska
  • To Wright: Heading 258°, 88nm.
  • To Yeager: Heading 280°, 76nm.
  • To Snowstone: Heading 305°, 106nm.
  • To Maywar: Heading 236°, 58nm.

Notes

  • If you're experiencing too much lag, reduce your game quality settings (I'd recommend setting aircraft reflections to "Static" if you haven't already).
  • You may experience minor bumps going over certain sections of taxiway/runway. I did try fixing it but Unity was being a bit problematic. I'll revisit it at a later time if it becomes a bigger issue.
  • The island isn't affected by fog. It looks a bit strange from a distance or if your weather is set to Foggy. I have yet to find a solution for it (if one exists).
  • The trees don't have colliders. This isn't a bug, I just chose not to add them as I didn't want to decrease performance any further. Might test colliders in the future if it becomes a popular request and performance limitations allow me to do so.

Q&A

  • Will there be a mobile version? For the foreseeable future there won't be any Android version so please, don't ask. Chances are I'm going to remove your comment if you're legitimately asking for a mobile version.
  • Why are you not making a mobile version? iOS never supported mods to begin with. Android is restricted to non-scripted maps as far as I'm concerned, and that probably wouldn't work with the custom scripting used in this map.
  • What are you going to add in the future? Well there's a few things. Can't say for sure right now though. If I work on any updates it'll probably be bug fixes and feature additions.
  • Will this be uploaded to the Steam workshop? I've already tried doing so, with no success.

Alternative Versions

  • No Runway Lights: Don't want runway lights? This version removes them. Gives a slight performance boost as well.
  • No Trees: Don't want trees? This version removes them. Gives a slight performance boost as well.
  • Mikeska Airport Lite: Lite version of the mod that removes runway lights and trees. Useful for users who have lower-end devices.

Important: Remove any other versions of this mod from your mods folder
before loading a different version!

@MisterT Thank you. I recall messing around with the Environment settings but could never get the in-game fog working. I'll have to boot up Unity and mess around some more.
On that note, is there anything that might be causing the fog not to show up in-game?

Looks nice but you forgot to enable the fog. You can easily do it in render settings/environment/ check the fog box and save your mod, it will make it work with the in-game fog.

@M4riusTh34ViationFan You're probably not flying far enough.
The island is over 100 US miles away from Wright.

As for smaller navigation islands, maybe.

also add an island indicator (small islands with different textures until one is finally the same ground texture as your mod map)
