There are many posts every day, a post wont get many upvotes if it doesn't get many very quickly. The best thing is to make teaser posts, like this That way you will get maybe 15 upvotes and the post will be on "hottest" for a while and people are more likely to notice it. Then you get even more upvotes and it could come on the front page and you get even more upvotes. Basically: Get a few upvotes early to get a lot of upvotes later.
