Multiplayer Racing League

Wouldnt it be great to have realtime races in multiplayer? From my experience so far I can say the multiplayer mod runs pretty smooth, so an event like this would be feasible. Think the SP variant of F1 or LMP1. Where every league has it's own set of regulations so cars (or planes for air races) don't get too ridiculous.

Races would be scheduled on forum posts with the possibility for up to 10 participants at a time.

    @marcox43 Agreed. I hadn't thought of the teleport issue, I guess what I can do is make sure all players are aware of it before the race.

    you have to consider lag, I've done races on MP before, and cars tend to "teleport" a lot. for this you'll have to set up a max part count. for two cars or even three, the server can perfectly handle +800 parts cars, but for more players, you need lesser parts vehicles(300 is fine and allows for lots of creativity), as not everyone has a top-end pc that can handle the burden withouth crashing to desktop. For close maneuvers or overtaking a player, it is important to keep your distance, as lag and teleporting can make you crash that vehicle as if it was magic. it is very important to have a stable car, so it doesnt wobble around or lose control in mid of a straight, making everyone behind it crash or explode.

    @KingHandspider Depends largely on your framerate and physics settings. But you are correct things like that will probably happen, but that just means more of a challenge for drivers. In air races collisions will be much rarer though.

    @DeezDucks I don't think you understand, you could hit someone standing still at 5 mph and you both would explode

    @LancasterAce What exactly do you mean by target shooting?

    @DeezDucks There will be several different classes though, some with looser regulations allowing more creative designs.

    @DeezDucks The regulations will be rather simple so that people new to this sort of stuff can understand (think minimum weight, max dimensions, horsepower etc), but still consistent and powerful. And yes a default chassis won't be provided so players design their own.

    @Brields95 @RailfanEthan @DeezDucks @Chancey21 The syncing is very messy.

    Or we can race from island to island

    i'd do it but people tend to drive like absolute madlads, and one minor bump usually leads to both cars exploding

    I think you would attract more people if you let them make their own chassis as an option, they'd have to conform to the default cars main specs though.
