X-wing vs. TIE figther wich one has the more idiotic weapoint.

1,842 Irobert55  5.5 years ago

so to start things of: the TIE and the X-wing actuly share the bigges weakspot: the wings. the TIE wings a so big you cant miss them and the X-wing is actualy the resurection of the dumbest way to cool engines (for aircombat that is look at the heinkel 100 from military aviation history for more info link): by using the wings as cooling surfaces and hope you dont even get shot at because all damage to the wings kills the cooling system.

so wich one has the dumber weakness?

@Nerfenthusiast best deal: get this big, heavy walkers with a stupidly high point of mass and win every battle.

@Nerfenthusiast the empire also has a bit of a neck for getting stuff that is incredible useless if you only know the 101 of physics (especaily gravity).

and x-wing pilots usually get better training as they dont see them as disposable like empire does @Irobert55

@Nerfenthusiast the TIEs predacessor had actualy better misiles than the x-wing in the movies.

also ties only have guns x-wings have missiles @Irobert55

@Nerfenthusiast truth be told: the TIE is basicaly a me163 comet in space. in bith cases the fuel is so explosive that you dont need to put armor at the fuel tanks because of it. and in a 1v1 between a standard tie and a x-wing with defective hyperdrive and shields its only a matter of who gets the first shot (or misses it).

ID say the tie because if you shoot the underside it will blow up cause that is where the fuel tank or tabana gas container is

Can it fit r2-d2 though @Irobert55

@Rub3n213 to put it mildly: the f35 is very likely better (and nope i doesnt matter if it is the old lightning or the new lightning 2).

The real question is.. which one’s better than the F-35

@CursedFlames truth be told: i even tried to tell one of my friends that the reagular x-wing is a dumb construction by default. the thing is very likely to miss stuff in certain ranges due to gun placement, has the ordonance launchers where the guns should be and to top it of uses wing coolers in dogfights. neat construction for a transatmospheric craft but the rest is more idiotic. than some things on the classic TIEs.

@Irobert55 The thing is that they fold these wings out into 'attack position' IN SPACE.
Making sense of things that weren't meant to make sense is hard but I have to admit really fun. :P

@RailfanEthan acutaly the x-wing goes transatmospheric quite often so wings are a good idea on it (we all know what a joke the tie is in atmosphere).

At least Star Wars doesn’t even try to be realistic so it’s ok if everything is completely implausible. When most shows try to use real science it’s just sad @ThePilotDude

Lucas films designed everything from an artist's view, not an engineer's view. So all fighters in Star Wars are a piece of (naughty word) but they looks marginally better than a piece of (naughty word). The giant cruisers can’t be argued against since they have such wacky technology and are ridiculously beyond our league.

Who do wings make the X-wing crash in space? Where lift and drag are non-existent concepts? We will never know.

Despite the X-Wing being literally my dream craft, I would do anything to make one real, and I'll defend it's every flaw, but these kind of questions really don't work. Star Wars is set in a different universe, remember? Stuff is way different there. Going into the SW universe, the X-wing is the far superior craft in almost every aspect. The wing coolant system is quite literally the best way they could put it. Remember, Incom had the craft in prototype development for a long time, and had to quickly finish it off to give the Rebellion a good ship. They couldn't fit that wiring inside the fuselage. The most logical place to put it (as well as the only place to put it) was the wings. Also one big factor; shields. The X-wing had one, the TIE didn't (now I'm talking about the classic, not stuff like the TIE Defender). X-wings could leave some mechanics relatively vulnerable and rely on the protection of the shields. Each had their flaws, but the TIE was definitely the worst among the 2 ships

theres no air in space, why use wings

@randomusername the x-wing is the he100. the tie is a me163. but i think that both have their idiotic weakness but the x-wing is easier to save (still the empire won even in this regard). my position as someone who knows a lot is that the tie is weaker due to the barn doors atached to it.

@randomusername the x-wing still has a aerodinamyc shape. but the guns are placed dumb and the wings as coolers weaken the craft significantly.

@randomusername or that the TIE is most likely based on the me163 comet? check the data of both.

@randomusername did you know that ec henry put the star wars fighters into a virtual wind tunel? the TIE had aerodinamics closest to a brick.
